Me and the missus are thinking of doing a trip to oz as we have managed to organise a month off in late November. Can anybody advise the "must sees and must do's" whilst we are out there if we do manage to go?

Does anybody know a good travel company who organise travel and accommodation etc for you?

Thanks

1. Hire a Car - book it yourself. You'll save a fortune and you'll see alot more of the place. Websites like wotif.com for accomodation.

Get to the NT if you can namely Kakadu, unfortunately it'll be the wet season but some of the storms are even worth experiencing.

The WA coast is also worth exploring and up into the Kimberlys.

Depends I guess on how you plan to travel within OZ and the budget.

Every state has some really nice spots of you like scenery, some not so much if all you want to do is relax and sit on a beach.

Oz trip

Hi,

I spent about 9 months out there a few years ago.. For tips and hints, buy a Lonely Planet guide book and make your own mind up.. There is so much to see and it is absolutely huge..
East Coast: Party area/ surf area/ great barrier reef, fraser island/ Whitsundays
Sydney and Melbourne are both cool: Sydney has great beaches, as does Melbourne, both have great nightlife..
Blue Mountains: nice, worth a trip if you are in Sydney area
Adelaide/ Canberra: Boring
Great Ocean Road: Great views, nice drive, can do in 2/3 days
Perth: Really nice, but a long way away. Again good beaches/ nightlife.. South of Perth you have Margaret River.. Plenty of fine wines, good countryside, caving..
Didnt do NT or Ayres Rock, they are quiet a way out.....
I didnt bother with any firm and simply booked places from Lonely Planet and on advice of other travellers you pick up a lot of useful info....

If you're only going for a month I would suggest you miss out either the West coast or East coast as you're not going to be able to give each area the time it deserves.

The east coast would be my recommendation to visit as although all the towns are a bit samey, shops and beachs, places like the Barrier Reef and Fraser Island are not to be missed in my opinion.

Definitely spend time in Sydney and Melbourne and book a trip to Ayers Rock.

And if you are near Brisbane at the time of the cricket make sure you have accomodation booked asap as it will fill up pretty soon.

4 weeks will go so quickly so you need to be well prepared as to roughly where you want to go and on what route! I'm not saying you have to stick to it religiously but with the country's size you need to plan the travelling properly to avoid a lot of wasted time and money

Melbourne - take a cab ride around Albert Park (the grand prix circuit), looks like a country park when all the stuff is taken away, only takes 20 mins, then go on to St.Kilda beach.

Sydney - climb the bridge, not cheap, but very classy tour, and great views. Plus, take the ferry from Circular Quay for a day on Manly Beach, ignore Bondi it's sh1t.

i would fly into brisbane, hire a camper for two weeks ,head up the coast to cairns/cape york. fly from cairns to darwin for a week in kakadu, fly to kunnunnurra for a week in the kimberleys.....you are not travelling at a good time exchange wise so i would not bother too much with the night-life factor, sydney is a magic city but you will spend a fortune there in no time..........like-wise melbourne, hope you have a luverly time.

you will have a pretty unique experience driving from townsville to darwin in a camper -van , there are loads of wicked places slightly off the beaten track , massive inland lakes teaming with bird-life,hot springs, gorges with clean white sand and crystal clear water -falls..........is your missus fit,i'm free for most of december...??????

Trailfinders in Western Road will see you right. Make out a list of where/when you'd like to go, any stopovers you want to make, what kind of accomodation you like to book and they'll do the rest. Perfect for the first time traqveller to Oz, and can cost less than booking direct with the airlines for some reason.

I'd recommend sticking to the East Coast, doing Sydney-Byron Bay-Brisbane or vice versa. Oh, and Fly Emirates

Fraser Island is seconded. An absolute must! I did a two night/three day trip there. I paired up with 6 other randoms through Koala (a little resort type thing) - you got a budget to spend on food and drink, you get a jeep, transport over and tents. I assume they still do this. So much fun.

Byron Bay is great fun. Cycle trips (including BBQ's) and I would pay a short visit to Nimbin. Cracking little place.
