In my local. Twice. Two different people, at that. One was loudly giving a "Hove, actually" style speech to someone so I asked him, the other recognised the club logo on a scarf (it was bloody freezing and I'd just come in).

Gordon's Bay near Cape Town, in a bar, March this year. Bloke tapped me on the shoulder asked me where I was from, turned out he moved there from Brighton 20 years ago. Was reasonably clued up about Falmer etc.

I was in Cape Town in March...but that certainly wasn't me as I was only visiting.

I met two people from Brighton in a hut on the side of Mt Kinabalu in Malaysia a few years back, one said that he was an Albion fan, but neither were wearing the stripes. I also bumped into a couple wearing the stripes in a shopping centre in Glasgow, they said that they were on their honeymoon...which struck me as being a bit odd, but also that they would wear English football shirts in a place where they might have attracted the wrong sort of attention.

A few years ago in Menorca (Southampton cup final) went to the local for a few beers and football. Sat with a bunch of English, talking football and drinking beer- turns out there was 1 Villa, 1 Sunderland (Mackem an' proud!), 1 Evertonian and (including me) 3 Brighton! Now that felt unusual, rather than the usual 'who?' 'gayboys!' etc but 'Yeah, us too!'

in a cave in Malta as well, 'bout 20 years ago.

Withdean, odd considering I didn't think people still went there.

Nuweiba, Egypt. Got into the restaurant for brekky and a guy in a Skint shirt was sitting at the table next to the one we always use.

Was waiting at a remote station to go to the WACA in Perth to watch the Ashes game wearing 'SKINT' shirt and the only other person there came up to me chanting 'SEAGULLS!....' he was from Whitehawk!

theres a little thing that goes on with swindon fans that when we travel away from uk to strange places we take a swindon shirt to give away on the condition that if anyone asks the wearer about the shirt they have to reply "i hate oxford".

so far shirts have been spotted in cameroon, manawa ferry driver in fiji, barman in mexico city etc etc.

My first day at uni, a random parent had just dropped his daughter off and was driving off wearing his Albion shirt. I was wearing mine and we both noticed each other and had a few minutes' chat. I met his daughter a few weeks later.....

Also at the Eiffel Tower that one summer a few years back that was just stupidly hot. Myself and family were standing in the queue sweating buckets with brother and myself both wearing Albion shirts. A couple of French guys (also brothers) working on the lifts noticed us and waved us into the staff lift - turns out their mum had lived in Brighton for 20 years and still did. Free admission and jumping a 90 minute queue, marvellous scenes.
