It's a quandary to be sure.

You watch football for years, and you more or less come to your definitive views of what the game is about. It's a simple game, not a deeply thought out game of chess as certain verbose egg-chasers would have you believe, after the fact, and if you're being honest, you say as you see.

Except when it comes to players wearing the stripes. Then it appears to be that a suspension of belief is required.

In the last couple of weeks it's really been bite-yer-tongue time on here if you want a quiet life. Thinking of in particular:

1. Yelldell - Only saw him against Derby, but for sure if he was playing for the opposition that day, the chants of 'Dodgy Keeper' would have been ringing out loud and clear from the South Stand.

2. Harding - 442 magazine is asking me to accept that Dan Harding is the 26th Best Player outside the Premiership. Frankly that's an insult to my intelligence.

3. McPhee - Put in a performance sadly reminiscent of John Piercy's last ever game. OK it was his first game back from injury, but there's ways and means of coming back from injury. And he shouldn't have come out for the second half any more than Piercy should have.

Trouble is, say it a week before the tide of opinion has turned and you're a BAD FAN.

What's a BN1 boy to DO?

ok my answers

Yelldell - agreed , he had a superb debut but the last two games were really poor , glad we've got Shaaban

Harding - two games ago i would've agreed but hes starting to look much much stronger in defence , not 26th best player outside the premiership , but not as shit as everyone makes out he is

McPhee - totally 100% agree , poor decision by McGhee , but hes only going to become first team standard by playing first team games.

He ought to keep his big mouth shut for a few years and then he can comment on history and facts rather than delving in to the world of Mystic Meg with predictions of the future (ie. most of these guys' careers have only just started). He will probably get it wrong even then.

Just one question: homo-erotic fixation on Dan Harding? Or a relative? ;)

It's only banter. Don't let it get you down. It's only a game after all.

Not according to Bill Shankly..

'Some people believe football is a matter of life and death.
I'm very disappointed with that attitude.
I can assure you it is much, much more important than that."

I dont think Harding is the 26th best player outside the Premiership BUT in fairness to 442 they cannot have seen him that many times and are going on the opinions of experts and fellow players. A glowing reference from Under 21 Boss Peter Taylor and a couple of good England Under 21 appearances would suggest to someone who was not at Withdean every week that Harding is hot property.

Yelldell is history.
Harding is a class player for his age and will go on to bigger and better things. Butters is a legend and will go down in Albion folklore.
McPhee was in the team to do as Virgo did up front and In my opinion did OK and as well as I expected.
Who ever plays being picked by Mr McGhee will get my 100% support because Mr McGhee knows a damn sight more then I will ever know.
Guy Butters for prime minister.

Butters i have to admit i was very warey of when he came to the club ( as with all of Martin Hinselwoods signings ) but over the last couple of seasons i've seen him get better and better , still makes mistakes , still unsure wether he was actually the player of the season last season , but he was definitely in the top 3

I was unsure about Guy during his first half a season but would definitely have had him in the running for Player of the Year last year and if we voted now I would vote for him (or Hinsh) this season.

He has showed himself to be a model professional and I for one hope he continues his excellent form for a couple of seasons yet!

Dan Harding has been the man of the match for me in our last two games. His vision and ability to hit a telling pass set him apart from many other left sided players in our league. He has poor games - what young player doesn't - but I have no doubt that he will be playing in the Premiership in 2-3 years' time whether with the Albion or another club.

Good on ya Dan.
