O/T - Community Garden. A request for some advice...

All the houses around there have outdoor space available to them, so if they want to grow a few herbs they easily can. If there is a real need for a community garden, put it in one corner of the great big park that is already in place just a few seconds away. The thought that 50ft of prime space is needlessly being given away for a pointless vanity project sums up this council.
The site has already been prepared. Are you seriously suggesting it shouldn't be used?

It's a very wide crossing I accept, so clearly there is a reason to make it safer. That's not what I'm arguing with.

I'm not suggesting it shouldn't be used, I'm questioning whether a bit of mud for people to grow herbs in and then forget about in a month's time is really the best use of 50ft of prime residential land. A family could have had a home there. Surely that would have been better?
The site isn't big enough for a family home. A lock up garage, maybe - but that would hardly resolve the previous road safety issue.

With your evident knowledge of the area and your undoubted strong feelings on homes for families, why did it take until someone else had found a use for this particular piece of land for you to mount your ever so large horse and embark on a moral crusade?

Seems to me like your acting like a child wanting something someone else has got.

You're joking. If I want herbs or vegetables I'll go to Sainsbury's and hand over the PENCE it costs to buy them, and if I want a hobby then gardening would be a long way down the list. I'm just appalled at the council wasting more land.

When you get it wrong, you get it wrong in spectacular style, I'll give you that.

It's not a vanity project for the council, it's something asked for by the community. But then I said that in the original post. Secondly, not every household in the vicinity has access to a garden. Thirdly, there isn't the space, nor the planning regulations for a house. Finally, some people believe in the concept of community. It's probably a good job for the rest of us that you evidently don't.

Me, me, me, me, me, me.

Nobody should EVER spend money on buying rosemary. There is enough rosemary growing in gardens in Sussex to flavour the entire world's production of lamb stew for a lifetime. Steal it. It won't be missed.

At least this project gives folk the opportunity to help themselves to "other people's" growing rosemary without having to tramp through their gardens. That can only be a good thing.

Why would anyone be against people building/introducing community spirit?
Growing some of the food that will end up on a plate for the local people is also educational for children. Teach them community sprit when they are young and hopefully as the grow older they will respect this project for others to enjoy.
I fail to see how you can object to a small piece of land being used for this!
The waiting lists for allotments is huge in Brighton so this can only be beneficial to these people.

If I asked for a tennis court, a Jacuzzi or a statue of Take That for the good of the community, do you think I'd get what I want? No. So why is this scheme justified by the community (or, more likely, the half-dozen people who bothered to submit their view) wanting it? The Greens love pandering to the local wet blankets who think a community garden is a worthwhile use of anyone's time, while things that actually matter fall apart.

When I said you get it wrong, it wasn't an invitation to carry on being wrong.

The fact the concept of community evidently disgusts you is your problem, no-one else's. I think you know the answer to your question - you're just being a berk asking it. Similarly, this has nothing to do with The Green Party; we've had no dealings with them on this.

Anything else you want to make yourself look a berk over?

Best of luck to you, very worthwhile. Must be nice to see a project like this through from your initial petition. Don't see how anyone could have a negative attitude towards it but then some people have no vim or vigor left in them these days.

I have not heard that expression for probably 30 years, well played.

Is that a by-word for 'gumption'?
