Do you think it acceptable to physically force covid positive sufferers and their families into an isolation camp rather than allow them to isolate at home?

At first glance, no it doesn’t seem right, but we’re back to the realms of what’s good for the majority!

New Zealand has such low numbers of cases that this is the best way of keeping it in check for them! Reduction of civil liberties for a fortnight, or possibly spread the virus.

Self isolation is a nice idea, but as has been proven in this country, even those at the top of the food chain can’t be trusted to follow “advice”...

A good idea if you ask me and something they do in other countries. What's the problem?

think the problem is, if this was a reason other than this illness, you'd call this behaviour of a despotic dictatorship. perhaps we should do the same for immigrants, minor criminals, policitical opponents? doesnt seem so clever may be.

It's just 2 weeks, out of a small proportion of peoples lives, heck, some people go to Benidorm for 2 weeks - And pay for the pleasure!

Yes, to both of your questions. This is what the experts suggest, and they know a lot more than us lot!

Living in a Chinese outpost seems to have fuddled your mind. You are happy being told what to do without question. Madness.

Nice to see posts that are clearly bordering on racist and questioning people's gender starting to rear their ugly heads from the "I'm alright Jack" side of the argument!

For once I’m in agreement with you, right from the outset the UK should have shut the borders, ban overseas travel for residents who are planning to return within a year, curfews after 9pm and the only reason you are allowed out is key work or visiting food shops, certainly no exercise, that little grey area was ridiculous.

So they've had 2-2.5 months where they've been more or less operating as normal, without any restrictions, with the exception of closed borders. If they now lockdown completely (in Auckland, not the whole country) for 2-3 weeks until those cases are dealt with then they can open up completely again.

Agree it is difficult to plan, but they might have more companies who have managed to survive, particularly in industries like sports/music events, theatre, weddings/ funerals etc that depend on mass gatherings, compared with this country where those industries are still more or less completely unable to operate.

And while I have no idea if this is the case or not, you'd imagine their public may be more receptive to a second lockdown as they've been able to go back to normal before. Whereas here, having seen how many people are completely ignoring the current restrictions, I have doubts about the effectiveness of future lockdowns should we need them.

Unless the test everyone how can they be sure it’s gone?

Found this -

New Zealand already entered recession in June, which led to the nation's biggest quarterly contraction in 29 years. GDP fell 1.6 per cent in the first quarter from the fourth, which is the country's largest decline since 1991

They have been affected by shutting down quite badly and shutting down again will do even more damage.

That's a lower fall than many other countries, including the UK (-2%)

https://www.oecd.org/economy/g20-gdp-growth-first-quarter-2020-oecd.htm

But either way, that only reflects the impact of the initial lockdown, it will be more telling to see the 2nd quarter, when things have opened up again. It looks like the UK is forecast to fall by a further 20.4%. I can't see any figures on NZ yet though.

I agree it is lower, but other countries are opening up and I can’t see them fully locking down for the same low level NZ have - so the damage will go on longer.

I appreciate this is all “what Ifs” like you said best check back in a year

Less than 50 years ago we had two isolation hospitals in the Brighton area for polio and TB. You were locked away for months not just 14 days. Bevendean and Foredown in Portslade.
Thankfully immunisation was found and implemented.

Do they? Seems like there are a group of experts funded by WHO (Gates) and any other scientists that offer an alternative view are immediately shut down. These experts have contradicted themselves consistently. From Fauci saying masks no good to where we are now. News flash we may never have a vaccine that is effective. Even Fauci said one that worked for 50% of people would be a good result. Locking people up for a virus that barely kills anybody that wasn’t going to die soon anyway. The vulnerable can shield themselves and are anyway. Our civil rights removed maybe forever. The world plunged into the largest economic disaster on record. People thinking all this is ok. The world has gone mad.

Seriously.

Oooh, that Gates. FFS.

NZ were clear. Of course, crack down hard on mad numpties sneaking in with Covid (how else has it erupted there again? 5G?).

NZ are in a different place from us where, after gross incompetance, we have resigned ourselves to the inevitable deaths of the vulnerable in order to preserve our freedom and economy (batshitmental plan to be announced soon, kiss granny goodbye).

Let's count the dead again in November. I bet I know who wins (no names but the initials are N and Z). Perhaps I'll be alive to see the tally myself. Perhaps not.

Those who have survived it are in a great place. Those yet to get it are not. My vote in the '**** you, let's dance' ballot is 'no thanks'.

My mum spent weeks in Foredown in 63. Never found out why. Did find out my dad couldn't cook, though

I agree. The most baffling thing of all is the way some people, a lot of people seem to thrive on having their freedoms and human rights taken away. The fact some people think it is just fine to be forced from your homes and stuck in a camp for 2 weeks agains't your will is very worrying

The uk death toll for the last 3 days is 11, 11, normally 5250 people would die on average in the uk over a 3 day period. CASES CASES CASES, what is the actual issue if very few people are getting seriously ill not hospitalised let alone on ventilators or dying ? Still 5 - 6 months on we are forced to wear masks after 4 months of being told they are a waste of time, cannot go to theatre, cinema, concert venues, sporting events and many more, destroying all those industries daily for a virus with a fatality rate of 0.24%. Hundreds of thousands of businesses have been wiped out and the pigeons will come home to roost by the end of the year when the real carnage will start to become apparent and people not being paid a 6 month holiday anymore may start to question the actions that were taken and the events that will subsequently unfold over the next decade

The world has gone insane, totally insane

Why would it be a wind up? A significant amount of cases are as a result of poor quarantine control.

You are ok with people being forced from their homes into camps ? For a virus with a 0.24% death rate
