If you look at the stats for Ken Tester, you'll know that most of his dogs go lame much more often than other trainers...it's a bit of a standing joke at the track amongst the regulars when he gets a decent dog given to him to train, it's only a matter of time before it will get an injury.

John Gammon is ok as a trainer, but doesn't get the overall strike-rate or consistance of winners compared to some of the others.

Someone like Derek Knight or Brian Clemenson are both excellent trainers and have had many very good dogs over the years and have done really well with them, including Derby Finalists.

Yes i quite agree about Tester. Have supplied him with several dogs over the years and watched them all go steadily backwards. Smashing bloke but doesnt have the nous, the setup or the staff.

Got a lot of time for Knight but from my experiene with him in the past he is reluctant to travel for minor opens. may have changed?

Clemensen has done well since his portsmouth days and could be worth a shot. not sure where his kennels are?

i have no ptevious with Gammon. Main reason i put him forward is that he is at cosmic kennels. i had dogs there in the bob young days and like the set up. as long as it has been maintained?

Clemenson in recent times has been going here, there & everywhere, with a single dog for a minor open, and seems to have regained his hunger for the sport.

He has plenty of staff willing to travel all over the country.

He would be my 1st choice if I had a dog capable of winning minor opens or similar.

Right, a quick count up:-

£100 : Me(Seagulltonian), Barry Izbak, Manny, Mrs Manny, J2 BHA, Briref, Prawnsarnies, The Merry Prankster, dazzalewis1968, HB&B

£50 : Gazwag, Pat Albion?, Hola Gus, Stevie Boy, Safeway

Maybe's : righton 70

So, I make that £1250, if my maths is right, and I've counted everybody properly. (If I've made a mistake, please feel free to correct it!)

Still up for Thursday myself as well :rave:

Youre right Canterbury was what i was thinking of. Knew he came into hove from somewhere. Dog i have lined up will cost a grand or so. As i said in a post earlier it is well sourced, at a knock down price from a family member (My Father). Its unraced but i know its Schooling history and think it could have a shout. Only one of its litter has raced so far and has already appeared in an open at Hove (placed second). Having said that.... No dead certs in racing.

Still Somewhere in Sussex!
Can't make it tonight now due to work

Still want to get this off the ground. Please let me know how it all goes. Cheers

Have a good evening and back some winners!!

How soon is now?
I expressed an interest in this early dawes and am still interested - can't make tonight but would be keen to see what the monthly outlay would be for each individual. I can see a few figures have been bandied around, but nothing kind of definite(accepting there will be extra costs, should problems occur)

Just back from the track. Prawnsarnies, J2 BHA and i had a good chat about things. Looks like we can get this up and running now. Some of the things we discussed and some suggestions -

Need to appoint a leader of the syndicate - Unanimously agreed that if he is willing to do it - this should be Seagulltonian

Costs About £70-£80 to register the syndicate and rename the dog. Trainer fees £6 a day. No extras to pay (other than vets bills of course)

Finances We feel it should be set up at £100 per share. Understandably some people cannot stretch to this, so if they can club together to make up 1 full share of £100 thats fine. It was suggested that each full share pays £20 per month by direct debit to the leader of the syndicate. This will more then cover the training fees and will enable us to build up bit of a kitty.

Worth noting that you are not just buying into this one dog, you are buying into a syndicate. We may end up buying another dog if thats what people want to do as and when finances allow. (a possible trip to Ireland to get a dog at some point in the future was mentioned  )

It was also suggested that a certain percentage of prize money be donated to REMF.

Timescale it seems we now have enough interested parties to get this up and running. We felt that setting a deadline of the end of this month to get all monies in would be a good idea, otherwise this could run on and on.

Syndicate Name We need to come up with a name for the syndicate. Suggestions (sensible ones) welcome

Naming the Dog As above we need to come up with a suitable name for the dog. Sensible suggestions again welcomed.

Purchasing the Dog Once the money is in we obviously need to buy a dog. I have put forward one prospect. Any others?

Oh and for what its worth..... the wife was delighted as we bumped into little Geordie chappie Ant or Dec (not sure which is which? The one without the huge Spamhead) at Pease Pottage srvices. Burger King at quarter to eleven. How these celebs live eh?

I think that about covers it - did i miss anything?

Any other questions?

Excellent summary. It sounds like you got this off on a very sound footing.
I'm just sorry I couldn't join you down there.

I would support Seagulltonian being the syndicate leader if he will agree to take it on.

£100 per share sounds good, with people being able to group together to buy a share if they don't want to part with £100. And each share to direct debit £20 per month sounds reasonable too. I like the idea of buying into a syndicate rather than just a dog.

I also agree with the timescale, as long as Seagulltonian can get an account set up in time for initial payments to be made and DD's to be set up.

Finding a name for the syndicate is important, but renaming the dog is vital for me. Earlier in the thread mention was made of NOT changing its name. I definately want an NSC, or Albion name for the syndicate and the dog.

I have no knowledge about the dog we should buy (as my last visit to the track last Saturday will sadly demonstrate) and am very happy to delegate this task to those in the know.

My only other observation would be that I hope that we can find a mutually convenient opportunity when we can meet up before the end of the month and confirm all this?

I am happy to come in with half a share with somebody else.

Can I suggest a PM is sent to the interested parties as sometimes its easy to miss or forget to look at a particular thread. Also ask for an email address of each person so a blanket email can be sent out once all the details are know.

Is it a case of individuals setting up a standing order themselves rather than a direct debit being set up by the bank account holder, not sure if D/D will mean bank charges. With internet banking this should be very straightforward.

Also would it be worth asking Bozza to set up separate forum to keep this off the main board especially when Syndictae name and dog name suggestions are made.

Manny - that's everything as I remember it, nice one.

BarryIzbak - we also talked last night about the need for as many of us as possible to meet before we actually go off and buy the dog etc, good call.

If Seagulltonian can confirm he'll lead and everyone who's seriously interested posts on this thread we should know quite quickly how many people will be in the syndicate. We can then arrange a get together and to get the cash into the synidcate's account. That should enable us to crack on and get a dog once we've had the meet up.

Good stuff - as soon as Seagulltonian confirms his role as leader we can get these things rolling.

I am still more than happy to make up that share with you Gazwag.

Sorry couldnt be there last night as on holiday in France.

Seems that all the right questions have been asked, so count me in!!!

Also from my limited experience with greyhounds, Brian Clemenson is regarded as the best trainer.
