I don’t know if it’s just me but I’m finding the site very buggy at the moment, it keeps refreshing meaning I lose any posts that I haven’t finished typing. Are there settings I can change or anything that can be done to make it a bit easier to use.

I’m using Safari on an iPhone or iPad.

Thanks

Happens occasionally for me on Safari/iPhone too, maybe once or twice a day. Page crashes and reloads.

It is related to the ads loading and causing the page to refresh somehow. @Bozza has said this isn’t intentional or a punishment for not going ad-free or anything (for just £5 a month!).

I used to get it sometimes and it was annoying, but never had it since I “bought my way” out of ads.

It’s been going on ages so I’m thinking there’s likely no way to stop it

Yes, apart from wanting to support @Bozza anyway in his keeping NSC going (personal choice) , I have found it is well worth paying a small subscription to use the site ad free - pages do load much quicker and they don’t clog up my system with cookies (and for my autism, it really helps not having a difficult to navigate, crowded page with flashing or moving ad clutter 😎)

I do the same with Amazon Prime - pay slightly extra each month so I can watch content ad free.

As my learned friend @jcdenton08 mentions above, it's likely a rogue ad.

I do keep making promises to review the ad setup, with a view to trying to eliminate those frustrations, and keep breaking those promises. Unfortunately, I've just not had the opportunity to sit down uninterrupted for a few hours and work through it for some months.

It is top of my NSC priority list, however. I won't make another promise I may struggle to keep, but next week should be an easier week for me than this week, so I'll try my hardest to properly look at things.

Also, thanks for not ad-blocking. People have different tolerances for ads on websites. There are those who will do their damnedest to block every ad on every site they visit, and those who accept they are sort of a necessary evil to fund websites so let them through.

I use NSC with the same full ad setup as the bulk of NSCers, as it's important that I have the same experience as most others. I'm relatively intolerant of intrusive ad experiences, so if I'm not frustrated using NSC then I would hope most others are the same.

There's one caveat I always need to mention with this stuff, though: no two people have the same ad experience. Because of the way targeting works in ad tech, we all see different things. It could be that an interest you have, or site you have previously visited, is causing you to get ads I never see, and it could be one such ad that is behaving badly.

I'll add one thing, though, I'm surprised you're losing text.

One great feature of Xenforo, for me at least, is how it retains partially-typed posts.

Sometimes I start typing something on my phone, get frustrated as I'm typing an essay and I have fat fingers, so just open my laptop and the post is there ready for me to continue with.

Similarly, sometimes I tap an ad that takes me away from NSC, but when I return the copy is still there for me to pick up again.

No issues on Android for me FWIW.

Ads are a small price to pay for access to NSC imo. There was a time a few months ago where I'd get pages and pages of full page ads but that seems to have disappeared.

If you reload the page again all the text comes back and you can continue with your post. It’s been happening for a while on safari.
What’s strange is Casino and poker sites seem to be the main ads being displayed and I don’t have one bookie account with anyone and not remotely interested in gambling.
Yes, I’ve found the text is still there.
I agree about the betting ads, there’s a bet365 on this page right now, and I don’t bet.

As for blocking text, the blue privacy verticle block half way down the left hand side is slightly irritating.

I think the idea is these companies spend millions enticing people to bet and then pretend they care about them after they have formed a gambling addiction and blown all their savings.

Except if you've quoted someone to reply to. I found in a recent unpleasant exchange the poster I was responding to had either deleted or heavily edited what I was responding to...you then get this weird hybrid of the two if you had started responding and wanted to come back to it later...not a big deal at all, and infact its an interesting feature of the coding that supports such sites that it does try to cope with nearly every eventuality of its users...
