how about starship troopers 9 for me on that one but i reckon some will think it was crap

I would give that film 3

The first couple of times I've seen it it was great but after having to watch it with my Dad (who would give it 10) it is SHIT!

For Shawshank Redemption, 9, total classic!

Great film, and very moving first time around. Saying that though, it doesn't for me have much "re-viewing" power, which prevents it scoring any higher than an 8.

6.5 - I rounded up to 7.

To say it's the greatest film ever is an insult to truly great films like The Bicycle Thief, Citizen Kane, & Ikuru.

Quite. I think it's a good film and superbly acted throughout but a long way short of a classic. It's a feel-good movie, which is why people, er, feel good about it but there's really nothing special there.

BTW, I've never seen Bicycle Thieves, the decline of the arthouse cinema and the reluctance of TV companies to show foreign films mean that I might never. I'd love it to be released again.

The Bicycle Thief has been re-released in DVD. It's B&W (obviously) and the picture quality isnt great, but its still excellent. The acting, considering the time, is superb

6 - Its OK.

Big hole in the story - how does he manage to pin the poster to the wall after making his escape at the end?
Perhaps only the top two pins were in forming a kind of cat flap.

Best film ever made for me. A great feel good film always makes me smile at the end. Saw the Terminal recently and the story is remarkably similar!

Great film. The first time I saw it, that simple twist at the end was just so satisfying. It was one of those films which I kept thinking about for ages afterwards. I've got it on DVD, might have another sniff at it this week.

I've always liked films that are narrated by one of the actors. Shawshank is a good one, but other good examples are Platoon, Goodfellas, Casino (Scorsese is a master), The Green Mile...I like being "talked" through films.

I'm a sucker for being talked through a film.

Shawshank the best film ever in my eyes
