We truly are f*cking brilliant.

I thought it would only be fair to post something today, so as to shed the myth that I’m devastated we’re fantastic and have been sulking about it.

Yesterday was SO SO GOOD, and it’s been the same all season. In almost every game that we’ve not really turned up for, we’ve still managed to come away with the points. The players have been absolutely phenomenal. But let’s be honest, it is largely down to Gus. He is a one off, an absolute genius. He’s got us playing the best football I’ve seen, and the best people a lot older than me have seen!! He’s got time for the fans, and he’s a real winner. Everyone loves him, and rightly so. Just look at how he’s taken on this team – bringing in quality players where needed, and getting the existing ones in the squad to kick on. A few examples:

Ankergren – a last minute signing but an absolutely outstanding one. Has anyone ever seen a keeper playing so much football with their feet?

The fullbacks – how long did it take him to get them in when he took over? Not very. Calderon has 8 – I doubt Lee Dixon or Gary Neville got that in their career, let alone this season.

Bridcutt – Navarro gets injured and everyone’s panicking, and then what happens? We find an absolute gem of a midfielder. Fantastic.

Noone – LuaLua (who deserves a lot of credit for turning performances at the beginning of the season into wins) gets crippled, and Poyet finds a player with pace, trickery and lots of potential.

Dicker – when he first signed under Slade everyone was impressed with his composure. But look at him now – creatively brilliant. Bennett too – a pacey player with potential has turned into one of the best suppliers in the league under Gus, and he’s certainly found his shooting boots.

Barnes – I’ve a big critic, but you can’t argue with 15 goals – terrific management to get that out of him so early in his career.

Murray – my word. It will be a shame if he leaves, especially if it’s to Palace! I think the vast majority have recognised he’s always had talent, but watching him the last 6 months has been a joy – he’s all over the pitch, he’s scoring goals, he’s clearing corners, he’s an unbelievable footballer – the fact that almost nobody thought he was going to hit 20 a season shows just how much he’s come on in a short space of time under Gus.

Tony Bloom is an absolute HERO. 16,000 ST’s next season is an incredible feat, and to be in The Championship makes it sweeter. I do think some people areperhaps getting a bit ahead of themselves next season though purely because of Norwich/Leeds, with lots of talk about us going up to the Premier League. It’s possible, but it’s unlikely. A more realistic aim would be to stay up without getting in a relegation fight, and to consolidate a position in mid table to build from in future seasons.

The only concern is when Gus leaves. It’s quite clear he’s a Premiership boss of the future, and let’s hope that’s with us. However, I do think some supporters will be in for a shock when he does eventually move on to bigger and better things, as we’ll do so well to find anyone who can get close to him, and who can play the terrific ‘flicky flicky’ football we’ve all got used to. It probably won’t last forever, so it’s definitely worth enjoying it while we can!

Gus Poyet (and the players/staff!) – Take a bow. Take a bow.

 Great post... I, in perticular agree with this part, Poyet said today on Sky that the Championship contains much more quality- and that we'll have to build up slowly. The people expecting us to finish top 6 next season are getting ahead of themselves and I for one would be happy just to cement championship status for a few seasons

Agreed. Even 4th bottom wouldn't be that bad - people forget how we came straight back down in 2003* and then only stayed up in 2005* on the last day - and the league is stronger now! I agree we have a lot better foundations than we did then but please let's not get too ahead of ourselves.

Let's pray Gus stays for the right amount of time. Would like to see the new training facility built, the right youth set up, the right development squad and the professional winning mentality from top to bottom. If he goes then, we'll all be eternally grateful. Clearly stupidly early to even contemplate who could replace Gus, but Neil Warnock and Steve Coppell come to mind. Two or three solid years consolidating in the Championship (we could be so lucky), we'll have plenty of good candidates to choose from. In the same way that Peter Taylor stayed after Cloughie left, maybe Tanno will turn out to be an able deputy.

In any case, who cares.....no one can predict the future, but whatever the future holds, surely blue and white.

I would imagine with Gus he'll play a waiting game. Get us established as a decent (if not promotion chasing) Championship side and accept an offer from a big club. Can't see him being happy managing a team that just makes up the number in the Premier. More chance he could go abroad I would suggest.

Great post but I do think that the legacy will be quality football. It is amazing how often one manager's legacy remains pretty much there for a very very long time. Gus's is classy football and I am sure it will be the case for us, especially if a successor can be groomed in advance. Anyway that is a long long way off. Let's enjoy it now and I must say that I will be very tearful come our first match at the Amex. I am going to make a weekend of it and do an hour at the Goldstone , then walk to the Amex via the Withdean.
Hope there will be a collective walk for that , whether it be sponsored or not.

Some maybe getting ahead of themselves, but 4th bottom would be pretty shit. Even if the league is better now, we're a lot better. We have a great manager, a stadium, and some money to at least compete at Championship level. Mid table would be fine with me, but 4th bottom would be disappointing.

Blmey, are you still drunk from all that Champers yesterday?

One slight note... Bloom said he wanted top 2 this season and 99% of people said that is a bit too far fetched. Who knows what can happen.

I do know one thing, this is one HELL of a time to be a Brighton fan!!
