Probably the last person on here to realise this, but no trains from Ipswich to Norwich on Sat. The alternatives are one and a half hours on a replacement bus through the most boring part of the entire country or via Royston and Cambridge North (also involving bus). Both almost a three hour journey from London. ******* hell. This should be 1,000 loyalty points or something. Barber out.

For those travelling from Brighton or the south you can go via Peterborough from Kings Cross to catch a 2 carriage train to Norwich taking an hour and half

Edit - I also put about Ely but those trains are only running to Royston and require a rail replacement bus

I posted info about the replacement buses via Royston on the Norwich match thread last week

I travelled back from London to Cambridge after Christmas using the replacement bus.

The bus takes 40 mins between Royston and Cambridge- it normally takes 20 on the train so that was literally 20 mins added to the travel time. The timetable allows for traffic but there was very little.

You don’t need to go to Cambridge North, the replacement bus goes straight to Cambridge main central train station where you can hop on the direct train to Norwich ( about 1hr 20 mins)

It takes me usually just under 2.5 hours on the Thameslink direct from Brighton - add 20-30 mins because of the bus replacement- that’s about 3hrs to Cambridge from Brighton not London.

Granted its a lot of train travel to do in one day from Brighton but from London, really easy.

(If there’s 4 of you, sharing a taxi from Cambridge is a suggestion

Ely is on the same line as Cambridge - it is the next stop past Cambridge N - so london trains do connect with Ely where you can pick up a train to Norwich but there are replacement buses between Royston and Cambridge..

- for trains to Peterborough from Brighton you need to change at St Pancras and go via Kings X.

So is there an actual train from Peterborough to Norwich?

That two-carriage train is going to be FUN.

Depends where you’re starting from but you could try the coach options - Seagull Travel, Bluesaway etc. Yes, you’re still sitting on a bus/coach but at least it’s door to door, so no stress.

The other route I was thinking of was via King's Lynn but that is also a bus*

I think the train companies have faced so many complaints in the past about Christmas / New Year disruption, they have put off all 'improvement' works until January.

*In fact, there are literally NO tickets available to purchase from London to King's Lynn on Sat. It's as if King's Lynn has been wiped off the face of the earth (which wouldn't be a bad thing, but...)

Five and a half hours by "train" from Eastbourne. £43 return on Group Save (via Cambridge).

Time and cost of coach presumably similar, but prefer train even with replacement bus element.

Last time we played at Norwich it was a nightmare, I ended up getting all our fares back for both there and back, never forget the Liverpool Norwich express :lolol: we ended up having to get on mid journey from London to Norwich.

Good luck, ST for me, how confident are you that there will be enough space on the buses

No "confidence" about travel plans, just general optimism it will be an enjoyable day out. Good tip about getting to the replacement bus stop promptly to try and mitigate potential issue with capacity.
