North Stand Standing - message from removed fan

I believe that the club would be well served by asking BCFC if they could lay on a training course for our stewards. Theirs were superb on Tuesday night. Starting with those on the turnstiles, they were happy, friendly, smiley and approachable. They didn't attempt, at any stage, to get us to sit - and they didn't try to bully their own fans (who I thought gave magnificent support given their team's current position) into sitting either. It's an all-seater stadium but with club officials and stewards that appeared to be fans understanding the passion of the game, and of football fans.

What a refreshing change it made to the arrogant, aggressive, over-bearing bullies who pick on one individual amongst dozens, if not hundreds, who are standing.
Our stewards must arm themselves with a dictionary and learn the word CONSISTENCY. You enforce sitting in ALL areas of the ground (especially the away fans who the stewards seem to spend more time running away from than controlling) or you adopt the laissez faire approach as most other clubs have. ALL areas of the ground - at ALL times....or don't do it at all.

To the OP's mate who got ejected & banned, keep fighting it mate. Pay no heed to those on here saying it was deserved or trawling up the ignorant nonsense that it is ILLEGAL to stand at a football match! An issue such as this soon sorts the fans from the "customers"!! Good luck.

your first paragraph nailed it there mate.......i doubt many of our stewards are Albion supporters so have no empathy with the fans at all...........jobsworths.........chelsea , manu jobsworths....oh ,is that a chant..??

The stewards should have taken him down to the concourse and said "look mate, we're watching you inciting the crowd and encouraging others to stand up. We can't have you doing that, if you continue to do it we'll have to eject you, and then you'll be looking at a ban. Do yourself a favour and calm down a bit". Then let him back in. Job done. If he does it again, out he goes and he can have no complaints.

I have read a few threads on standing at the Amex, I haven't been there yet (thou will be in 10 days!). Surely there must be a solution to the problem that can be discussed between the club & fans? At Palace there are the Fanatics in B block who stand throughout & C block next to them is the same as is the back of the Arthur Wait stand (to the left of visiting fans who are on their feet most of the time). Peterborough is considered a great away day due to the terracing and atmosphere that it creates.
If the club won't discuss the issue with the fans then the fans need to organise themselves and stand in the same place, it's easy for a over zealous (I wanted to be a policeman but I was too fat) to pick out a few people but a different matter if there are hundreds to deal with.

My interpretation of the video is that Beige Coat is trying to incite as many people as possible to stand, for no clearly obvious reason other than to make the stewrds attempts at enforcement impossible.

If he was the one ejected then he got what was coming.

The fact that the NS is 100% STH's (ignoring the new NW Corner), would make that difficult as everybody has their own seat and cannot therefore move around willy nilly

Apologies if this has been suggested before, but I can't be arsed to read through every post on this subject. Why not organise a "protest stand", with everyone standing between, say, the 20th and 25th minutes of a match? I assume the stewards wouldn't be able to throw everyone out...

Well you need to do something to sort it out if only to end the threads on the subject, give you room to have more Palace attendance ones... I assume the away fans get away with standing?

Barbers a wanker, he can say what he wants and act as if he cares what we think but he is just trying to impress his executive friends. My seat is right behind the guy who was kicked out and he done nothing wrong, he told the steward that if someone behind him wanted him to sit down then he would and he was not at all aggressive towards the stewards, there were police all ready and waiting in the concourse so it was obvious they wanted to kick people out. When the crowd started having a go at the steward he went off but came back with about 3 policemen at half time when a large section of the crowd had gone into the concourse and took the guy out, the guy didn't swear or resist and went peacefully. The fact that he's been banned is disgraceful and it means that the steward is a lier. I am absolutely livid and Barber should overturn the decision and fire that steward. One steward said she was a fan but she had no reply when she was told that a real fan wouldn't do that to another fan. I would understand if he had sworn or been aggressive but he did nothing wrong. Sort it out Barber.

The steward in charge with stand manager on his vest was the one who kicked the guy out and he told us that it was barbers instructions

How about:

• Survey the North Stand to see who wants to stand and who wants to sit
• Work out the percentages
• Allocate enough rows from the back to those who want to stand
• Move standing people back and sitting people forward for next season

Obviously this is a non starter if the club would lose their safety certificate and has the downside of unseating some people.

To be fair - it's a bit easier to control a crowd of 13k than it is 26k. I've always found the stewards to be OK at the Amex.

Dear Auntie Sue,

I'm getting a bit peeved and confused regarding the subject of standing in football grounds, more importantly the North Stand at the AMEX in Brighton. Ground rules state no standing, although it is acceptable for standing to happen during isolated exciting moments in a game as long as the crowd sit down as soon as the action is over. I think i understand and can cope with that, and in most ways agree with this and of course its the rules! (And i paid for a nice comfy padded seat)

What annoys and confuses me is that the North Stand 'Customers' and that is what supporters have been described as, seem to be treated differently to other 'customers'. Week after week we are told to sit down whilst looking directly at the away supporters all or partly standing.

Am i to understand there are different rules for away supporters, because recently at both Cardiff and Bristol the majority of our away support stood all the way through both games and not once did a steward try to get us to sit. So the rules must state home supporters are enforced to sit, but away fans can stand, stands to reason pardon the pun.

Recently i think against Arsenal when the stewards were telling us to sit, i asked one why we had to sit but the away fans can stand, and the response i had was 'They run that stand differently' so is it down to the stand manager to make up their own rules?, i was under the impression it was a FA or League or license condition rule. Could you please clarify this for me as i 'Really don't know'

the club could of coarse treat everyone equally by banning all those who stand including all the away supporters who do this or ban ALL away support giving more Albion supporters a chance to see their team.
