It was all of the best stuff and none of the nonsense for the sake of nonsense. Pocketed Delap, stood up physically and mentally, passed calmly and accurately, put in tackles, won 50/50’s - just an exemplary right back performance.
Having to watch it on telly I couldn’t do my usual Veltman-watch of “accidentally” stepping on toes and laughing, chirping in his man’s ear, etc but I assume it was all present and correct.

Nice to see Mrs V in the stand with us last night too.
So many other teams are full of players trained in the dark arts, while we have only one. But he's the master.

I love the contrast with how he comes across in his post-match interviews. He just seems so normal, down to Earth, and NICE. Maybe the odd trace of a smirk or a knowing twinkle in his eyes if you're really looking for it, but the casual observer would have no clue that he's an absolute sh1t on the pitch 
I can imagine that helps with the refs too - he'll be warm and chatty with them, so they'll give him the benefit of doubt on the pitch.

Absolute master of the 'ref's best mate' policy. Followed by a practiced look of absolute horror & contrition when Joel 'accidentally' but inevitably wipes someone out

He is out of contract in June - get that extension signed Joel, the Netherlands will still be there in 5 years time!
Dark arts is only cheating and cringe worthy when it’s done badly - Joel is not only a wizard at it but it’s hilarious to watch.
