Can match-by-math tickets bought from the club not be printed at home? I know that tickets shared by an STH to an Albion+ member can be, so maybe that’s a solution.

I had no option to print at home as an occasional buyer. It's not a problem for me though as I have a smart phone. He's not a sth, just someone who goes to a match every now and then.

That's harsh, you know full well that he can't do that! As I said in my OP it is a genuine question about how he can get to any future games that he may want to attend on an ad-hoc basis.

Seriously, sing him up as an Albion+ member so he can get a ticket via the STH share scheme. Judging by the grumbling on here about lack of the ticket exchange over the last 2 weeks, I doubt he’d have much trouble getting in touch with an STH that can’t go each time he wants to see a game on an ad-hoc basis.

He can get a ticket, I could buy him one now for tomorrow but he doesn't have a phone. He doesn't want a phone, I'm not going to buy him a phone. He's an elderly gentleman who would just like to go to the occasional match. I just wondered if there was a way that he could do it.

It's nothing to do with being a luddite or not wanting to embrace the new. I'm sure he could probably buy a smart phone but it would take him the entire season to work out how to turn it on. I don't know him well enough to ask how good he is with tech but I assume that as he doesn't have a mobile he's not going to be that clued up with it! If we add in the Covid stuff, he can't actually get in without a phone can he?

Why don't you grasp the nettle and ask him the hard questions?

I should mention that I watch a lot of TV football with my 77 year old neighbour. I had BT sport and he got Sky sport. Quid pro hocter proc. However, it is too much bother for him to walk the 50 yards to my house to watch the BT games so he's now got BT sports. Old people are peculaiar. I know that as I'm 63.

Yes, the way I suggested would work. If he gets a ticket via the season ticket sharing scheme, then this gets sent in an email as either a downloadable or print-at-home ticket. I presume he knows someone with access to a printer that the email could be forwarded to that print it off for him.

This must be discrimination against people who don't have smartphone / internet stuff and just can't use a computer - how can you make them buy online?

I mean, what if I lived in a caravan with no broadband ...

You’d be supporting Palace and have no trouble getting a ticket...

Actually , Sunshine, I cuild buy a smartphone tomorrw, and use it. I don't want one - but hey, I'm sure you didn't mean to be patronising. For what it's worth.I was pretty clued up with IT at work, although not very interested except as a means to an end to do my job. Seven years after retiring I have zero interest in whatever it's doing now that it didn't do then. Smartphone? - yes, sorry to disillusion you, but yes, I could actually use one if I wanted to.
As far as I'm concerned, if there's anywhere that won't let me in without a smart phone, then they're not getting any of my money; their choice.

I can't ask him, as neither of us are in the pub anymore. He left before me & asked how does he get a ticket now. I replied 'I have no idea' & then sort the wisdom of NSC when I returned. :)

Hallelujah! Someone with common sense! Well done - even if some smartphone smarties try and rip you to shreds for it!

Thank you for your advice. I'll be sure to tell him when I see him in a couple of weeks time, that if they won't let him in without a smartphone then it's not worth his money. Alternatively I could try & ask on here if anyone knows of a practical solution and if no one knows, then I'll spend an hour on hold to supporter services next week instead. :)

Edit to add.... did you just call me sunshine and quote the wrong post GT49er?

Luddites or not, the policy of (a) a STH paying £20 for the right to pass on their ticket and (b) the receptor having to pay £25 to be a member, is going to lead to vast SWATHES of empty seats this season.

People just won't be arsed. My dad is of them.

He sounds like another one for the list of no phone, no ID, no membership, no friends brigade. Should all descend on the ticket office together and demand a solution.

He's not a season ticket holder. I'm not a season ticket holder but I have a phone and can go to games. He hasn't got a phone, has supported Brighton before I was born but now (as far as I can work out), can't go to the occasional game because he doesn't have a phone.

My point was that the "tech" is not the only barrier now. My dad is 81 and had a season ticket right up to this season, but he doesn't have a smart phone. I'm sure the ticket office would have a way of issuing him with my ticket if I was to pass it on to him for a game (something he could print or whatever). But for us to stump up an additional £45 between us for that to happen ? Err...nah.

He'll go to Hesgoal.

He has friends!!! Not sure if he has ID as he's of an age where he wouldn't need a driving licence. I wouldn't imagine he goes abroad a lot either so his passport has probably expired. He won't be storming the ticket office demanding a solution.

I don't think he has any tech at all. If he does, giving him the address for a water based viewing service would go right over his head. I'm making him sound stupid, but he's really not, he just has no need for technology.

There is a subset of fans whose age is catching up with them and they can't learn new technology. They know how to roll up to the club because they have done it all their life, but try to teach them the workings of a smartphone and they would be lost. Many of us have relatives who couldn't begin to work even a new TV remote control without help.

It seems harsh, especially when dementia is so much in the football news, that some younger supporters can be so unsympathetic to the older generation.
