An excellent idea

I was considering doing something similar, taking cricket to the poverty stricken regions of Lancashire but decided that the weather was too shit

Hope the plan succeeds.

Passed through New Delhi/Agra on a 3 hour train ride recently and the poverty along most of the route was appalling.

Yet when we met the local kids they came across as very happy and unspoilt, unlike the spoilt pre-teen brats you see around the UK.

Good luck :)

Thank you all for your kind offers and words!

I wasn't sure what sort of reception we would get!

We will have more of an idea when we can take donations after our meeting on 25th and keep you all posted.

Tede - you may well be a vital cog! And may be calling upon you for assistance and Nail-Z, if he were willing.

Thanks everybody.

Not knowing too much about Charities, I would guess that setting up a specific Charity would help as you would then be able to claim Gift Aid back from the Government.

Following on from Buzzer's invitation, I'll also go halves on a £40 cricket set for the gay boys to take overseas.

Whoever wants to match my £20, PM me, and we'll sort it out :)

FYI see Charity Commisison website:

A small charitable organisation (unless it has permanent endowment or the use or occupation of any land) with an income which does not exceed £1,000 a year is not required to be registered. It can operate as a charity and enjoy the benefits of charitable status (e.g. access to tax reliefs) without having to satisfy any of the compliance obligations which fall upon registered charities.

The £1K has now been increased to £5K

friend of mine used this website for raising a few hundred quid last year, all worked very smoothly - recommended for online donations

http://www.justgiving.com/

but that costs about £18 a month I believe

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/charities/giftaid-repay/registering.htm

for info on gift aid set up with HMR&E

Yes you can claim 29p in the £1 but do you want all the hassle for what may be a one off.

Hi chaps. Is it possible to get 'sponsorship' from an already existing charity and ask them to ring-fence the income? By this I mean that you collect as a distinct 'event' under the umbrella of the existing charity.

Pro's: Makes the whole venture more professional and credible, gets tax back, all above board, assistance in advertising narketing perhaps

Cons: You possibly lose control of money, may not be able to ring-fence, more red-tape.

Try the Lord's Taverners or some such. An extra 29% on all income must be worth considering IF this is possible.

BoF/FWY - Good on you guys.

Check out my signature for a website me and a friend knocked up in three evenings for a charity event we were doing.

I'm sure we would be able to do something similar for you guys. PM me for more details...
