No Boundaries - The Expedition

Ladies and Gents,

The Rt Hon. Frank Wild Years and myself have decided to embark on a charitable mission to India.

Basically the idea is to target poverty stricken regions/villages to visit. We aim to give the people some Kwik-cricket equipment and our time.

To quote Frank "participation in sport even at the very basic level can be benificial to children on many levels, but above all can provide hours of enjoyment and fun".

We have a number of organisations that appear to be keen to help, but hoping to build on that.

FWY has purchased a web domain for this idea and we are hoping to build on this and launch it sometime this year.

If you think you can be of any assistance, designing a website or logo and indeed in any other sense.

Then drop Frank or myself a PM.

If I have missed anything out, then I am sure Mr Wild Years will fill in the gaps.

Ps Mods - If you wouldn't mind making this a sticky...

Perhaps you could organise a NSC Kwik-cricket charity match, preston park? Everyone pays to play and it may get you some money for kit? I would be up for that.

By the way - f***ing good on you.

Maybe if you took the cricket ball symbol off you would get more views.

Thanks Nibble, thats the sort of thing we're looking to do.
Just to fill in on what BoF's already said, for me this came from seeing Mrs Wildy Ears being really fired up after a recent trip to India, where she was visiting an organisation called SCADIndia
http://www.scadindia.org
Her enthusiasm was infectious and I really felt like I wanted to get involved and after a chat with BoF where we seemed to share the same ideas we decided to give it a go.
So as BoF said we want to get a web site sorted out and if anyone is able to give a hand with doing this we would be very gratefull.
Any suggestions or ideas will be gratefully recieved as well
We look forward to being able to give out more information as the project takes shape.
Thanks. FWY

The cricket ball may not be helping.

Cheers Nibble - keep the bright ideas coming.

Am I right in thinking someone helped Large One with his website? For his shop in Gloucester Road? ???

Thanks Wild Ears - I knew I would forget something!

could have been nail-z-gull from memory but I could be wrong

Good Luck btw

Hans, Each kit costs £40. And comprises of 2 x Bats, 2 x Balls, 2x sets of stumps, 1x instruction book and holdall.

There is also a coaching kit (which I dont have the price for) 6 x bats, 6 x balls instruction and holdall.

Its early days so we dont have all the info at the moment, but watch this space. Ta Hans.

If my planned summer 6-a-side extravaganza gets off the ground [which it will] then £40 of the meagre profits will be coming your way. with the rest to the REMF.

I will probably print up a small program / pamphlet sheet, in which you can happily have a plug for your website when it's ready. Just pm me a few words.

Legendary, Hans.

Things are taking shape already.

Frank, I have my contact at Sky Sports News. Do you think this is something they would happily cover? (before I embarrass myself, by asking).

Has anyone seen anything similar covered?

Ps What are plimsoles? :jester: (I think I may have a pair of greenflash somewhere...)

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
If you need a set of Gray Nicholls LEFT HAND pads and gloves that were used by a Kent county player a few seasons a go then give me a shout, thet are gathering dust in my garage and absolutely no use to me (being right handed).

PS Good luck even old cynics like me think this is a BLOODY great idea.

Good on ya, Rougvie.

An auction or raffle could well be 'doable'.

FWY, I have been speaking with my Father and Rotary mey be able to help. I, personally, have a few items that would be very popular in an auction/raffle. The reason I am airing this is because, if anyone has any experience or indeed items they would contribute then that may be ideal. What do you think, FWY?

Good luck both of you. I have absolute no knowledge of building websites so can't offer any help there.

But let us know when your taking donations and such. Our daughters friend went to Guatemala on a sports initiative a few years ago, they had a website and on that website they had a counter type thing that showed how many 'kits' (I forget what was in them - a t-shirt, ball and a bat I think) and everyone could go to the website and 'purchase' one kit for them to take over.

If you get to go and do it I strongly urge you to go, it will be amazing.

I lived in Bangalore at the end of last year, and did something similar but not for charity. I was working out there, and part of the job was I got my own driver to drive me anywhere. In the end we became really good mates, and he invited me and a couple of other guys I was working with back to his home for lunch to meet his whole family.

It was in a relatively poor area, which weirdly was attatched to one of the richest parts of town, and after lunch we walked around his village to see local church and a few other sights.

We walked around, and en route we saw this dusty field where some kids were playing cricket. They were really happy and enthusiastic, but they were basically holding a plank of wood and using a flat football to play there game.

Feeling sorry for them, me and a couple of other guys went back into town and visited the local sports shop. We then managed to buy 2 cricket bats, 2 sets of stumps and 5 tennis balls for about £10.

We wandered back to the field where the kids where playing, and then set up our equipment and challenged the kids to a game. The kids were in awe of a real bat and a tennis ball, and the faces shone.

After the game our driver told the kids the equipment was for them, and they were so unbelievably happy. The happiness on them was so much it was one of those heart warming moments in life.

So doing it you will realise how you can make somebody’s life buy doing such a small thing
