*whooosh*

I was hoping the smiley might have given it away. If not that then the fact that I'd just berated TCB for stating his opinion as fact!

 I didn't actually read your response to TCB.

I also should have just put FACT on your post as everyone knows that an NSC FACT is an opinion.

This list is someone's or a collective group of people's opinion, very few if any would agree with it's contents and that's the purpose to create debate and discussion, which judging by the number of posts has achieved it's aim.

For what it's worth I like around 75% of the list. Would have like to have seen swastika eyes by primal scream included along all my friends by LCD soundsystem other than that it could have been a lot worse, as NME lost all credibility many years ago.

1) I quite agree. I'm not saying I'm right and you're wrong or vice versa. Music is entirely what you make of it, it is IMPOSSIBLE to be right or wrong. My point in relation to this list is that it's packed with bands/songs of the same genre. There is no variation at all. And while I'm unlikely to be buying a Radiohead or an Oasis album any time soon, I am a 24 year old male with a vague grasp of modern life, so I think I should have heard of more than three of the top ten. If you're going to try and do something like this you need to cover all bases.

2) It may not prove it but I'd say it is an indicator. Surely if something is that good then a large number of people will like it? It's why we all love football and beer. They've proven their value to a huge number of people so are popular. Radiohead is hockey and ginger beer. There may be some ardent fans out there who love them, but if they were that good then everyone else
would agree.

3) I've never read NME in my life so I'll take your word on that.

I think you need to research how many albums radiohead have sold worldwide in the past fifteen years. My guess is they will be in the top ten bands for records sold. Best live act I've ever seen and producers of four of the greatest albums of all-time.

Why Missy Elliot is on there, I'll never know. The FAT BITCH.

Probably because it's an absolute SMASHER. Produced by the single most important producer in rap/hip hop/rnb of the last 15 years, Timberland.

Get Ur Freak On is a TUNE and, to be honest, has more right than a lot of the shit in that list to be up there.

Can I be the first to say; all Coldplay music is shite, it's Dad music for bland middle-aged people? Just thought I'd get that out of the way

agreed , said it many times - it's 'music' for people who don't do music.

In fairness, I don't actually mind the tune at all. She is a bit of a plump MONSTER however and I'm not a fan of FAT people.

Did they give any reasoning? Are they the journalist's favourite twenty songs? Or are they a song each from what s/he considers the twenty most important acts? Or the most important song from the most important bands?

I agree with the poster who said that Shiver was coldplay's best song. It is(IMO obviously. It was all downhill from there-although parachutes is a decent enough album an the second one has a two or three decent songs on it too.

TCB, you're sounding like a young ernest.

1. Radiohead – 'Paranoid Android'
3. Outkast – 'Hey Ya!'
13. Jay –Z & Alicia Keys – 'Empire State Of Mind'
18. Queens Of The Stone Age – 'No One Knows'

These are the only ones I'd agree with. What about the National? The best band in at least the last 5 years; the album this is from is phenomenal...

Word, this and One Minute Man are absolutely amazing and pretty much changed the face of hiphop/rnb/pop. Will still sound fresh in 20 years time.
It's the shittest list. Love the 'ironic' choice of JLS, not a bad pop song mind.
