Gods country fortnightly
There is a bit of a misunderstanding here. Yes, the government have been giving the impression we have left. In fact, all we have done is declared we will be left at the end of the year. We are now in an interim period. During this period, nothing has changed or will change in terms of our trade and other arrangements with the EU. The only thing we don't have no is any voting rights. I'm not even sure we have stopped paying them money (I see no sign of that £350 million quid a week we were promised).

The government announced over the weekend that although we will finally leave at the end of the year, the transition period has now been extended another 6 months due to Covid.

In other words we won't be leaving till the middle of next year. At that point, however, we will definitely be leaving, deal or no deal. Oh yes.

So if I were an opportunist snake like Farage I would see there may be a few quid to be made by reforming his all singing all dancing all election *winning bandwagon, the Brexit party, to highlight the backsliding of HMG, and make some more money in personal appearance fees.

*I made that bit up.

The 6 months of light touch borders will work if there's a deal there and its being ratified. But if there's no deal it full WTO, zero tariffs on EU imports potentially means zero tariffs for all. Plus of course tariffs on our exports

In refusing the 1 or 2 year extension this is now a very high stakes game

Can I disagree with you, yet still be of the view that you're a good egg and are one of the most humorous posters on NSC?
And do you want a bet on whether Johnson lasts for four more years? On which, if it's all going so swimmingly well and Brexit will turn out so delightfully, why not extend those four years well into the future?

What....a ' Putinesque ' type approach....never mind the law....I'll rewrite it.....the people won't mind and don't care....and if it starts to turn nasty....well, I'm the one with the heavies behind me.

**I may have got that bit wrong but I'm pretty sure that's what I heard.....will look it up now....

Edit: From the BBC pages:

Checks on EU goods coming into the UK will be phased in next year to give firms "time to adjust", as ministers formally ruled out extending the Brexit transition period beyond 31 December.

The UK had committed to introduce full import controls on EU goods in January.

But coronavirus has forced a rethink, with firms able to defer customs forms and tariff payments for six months and some physical checks delayed to July.

Business welcomed what ministers said was a "pragmatic and flexible" step.

But, in response, the EU said it would implement full checks on UK exports at the start of 2021.

The BBC's Europe editor Katya Adler said the EU would not see the UK's move as a "concession but rather a pragmatic move by a country that's not ready to implement full checks by then".

Afraid I have no idea, just know the national %age - sorry

The main thing I read from it was just how small the number of the electorate you have to target and get to change to make a huge difference in Parliament. Something that I think has only really been exploited in the last few years. Pick your segment and target them with a very simple message, forget about manifestos and policies.

Physical political manipulation has been going on for years. It used to be called ' boundary changes ' Governments did it to suit their own particular agenda. Labour moving boundary edges to include more bits of urban sprawl or newly formed immigrant areas and Conservatives losing those types of areas and getting more suburban and shire inclusive. Very clever while it lasted ( until it just ran out of steam/potential ) Targetting the electorate with simple messages is also not that new...' the pound in your pocket '.... ' you've never had it so good '.......' would you vote for this man '....' education..education..education '.......etc. All these were pretty general statements. You're suggesting much smaller segments are being targetted.....interesting.

I really don't understand what you're on about, but I think you're angry.

Every time I see the Nigel Farage Breaking News thread bounced, I have a little flutter of hope in my heart. Then I realise that nothing has actually happened to him

Oh good, another person on NSC / social media wishing harm upon someone who they do not like or do not agree with. I actually think the wishing of harm is a cause for a ban more than expressing unpopular or eccentric views.

STOP IT - wishing someone harm puts horrible negative energy out there in the common space and in your heart. JUST STOP IT!!!

Me too, I keep hoping he's been assassinated or run over by a very heavy spiky garden roller.

No such luck . Yet.
I'd settle for him being arrested for espionage or something equally serious.

Yes that would be good, see him squirm as he faces justice would be better. There's no denying that If he'd crashed the plane better we'd be in a much better place as a country right now.

I always thought his light plane crash was a warning from the Kremlin to keep him in line.

We could ban pasta, paella and brick up the Channel Tunnel and he'd still be unhappy, he just needs constant attention

You may be joking but I'm reminded of Jeffery Archer complaining over the weekend about the 2m social distance. Because we've left the EU he thinks it should be changed to something a bit more Imperial.

Dear sweet lord.

With FPTP and technology as it is now, you can target extremely small segments and as long as you have a good understanding of who you are targeting, and the type of message they will respond to, even a moderate amount of success will see enormous gains in Parliament.

Dear sweet lord.

Yes I'm sure loads of people right now are completely baffled by it, but tell them to stay 78.75 inches apart at all times and they'll all cotton on like that.

Why is anyone asking the opinions of convicted perjurer Jeffrey Archer, anyway?

Is it alright, in your opinion, if we hope Farrage disappears from the media spotlight permanently so that we can begin the massive task of restoring Britain's reputation which he and his acolytes have trashed so comprehensively? Or is that simply negative anergy?

NSC has hit an all time low by people wishing or hoping someone has been killed. I'm no Farage fan, but that is so wrong. How the hell have the MODS let that go. Now waiting for all the bullying to start from the usual suspects, and why have you only made 127 comments in 11yrs comment.
