You’re not making any sense on Sunak, if he is as connected to British culture “in every way” as you infer then he wouldn’t have left the D Day commemoration early. But he did, and it was politically damaging for him, without doubt.

Again, Sunak IS as connected to British culture as I am. I certainly don’t want a monoculture in Britain - I’m a first generation Jewish immigrant for a start and half my family were born in Ghana. I absolutely applaud cultural diversity despite recognising how it can be problematic. However, arguing that that ethnic minorities are not as British as you when they were born in Britain is racist and I don’t know why you can’t see that. The fact you chose to link your comments with an article about Sunak’s grandfather collaborating with the Mau Mau was an attempt to link Sunak’s ethnicity with terrorism by way of association however subliminally you thought you were doing so. Is Arnold Schwarzenegger any less American because he was born in Austria or that his Father was a Nazi?

At this point the WW2 generation is dying out, for the first time in my lifetime there will be no living connection to that event and any WW2 commemorations will move into a different paradigm. Sunak and his advisors are in some ways ahead of the curve and it’s that combination of being a younger generation and having no tangible connection to DDay that influenced Sunak’s decision to leave early.

I agree there is a generational issue with Remembrance Day/DDay services but imo they will always be remembered in some way since they have embraced subsequent and present conflicts in their modern acts of remembrance.

As for Sunak leaving early - I think you are over-complicating it personally - What influenced Sunak’s decision to leave early was because he had a TV interview booked to help him with his election campaign. If it hadn’t been in the middle of a campaign that he was desperate to win, he would have attended the whole event.

It was only a couple of months ago John Ashworth was on QT saying how the good burghers of Leicester were United and not divided, and how proud he was to serve them…………….unfortunately for him he wasn’t reading the (prayer) room.

Again, a narrative that doesn’t fit with the facts as I understand them. John Ashworth lost his seat because the Muslim population of his Constituency didn’t feel Labour was coming out in support of the people of Gaza or understood their grief. No other reason than that.

You, and the other Reform Party dampers on here really need to drink that in.

There is no room for racism and intolerance in this Country. Farage’s brand of politics is divisive and cultivates hatred and disunity.
