Gods country fortnightly
I have faith that Reform will never be elected. Once they come under scrutiny, I think folk would return to the Tory fold. Most people are 'centrists' in this country. They can be influenced by centre right, but Reform are too unpalatable for most. Still a protest vote.

I think.

There are good Labour folk and good Tory folk. I've not seen anything good in Reform. Just hate.
I used to think like that

But 52% were convinced leaving the European Union would be beneficial to the UK, it was so obvious it wouldn't be

Trump was never going to go directly after Labour himself

Just using musk as his attack dog

The Farage stuff is just quite funny, all going to turn on themselves soon enough
It doesn't really feel like Musk's ranty-rants are Trump* sanctioned.

Odd one this. I've learnt nothing new about the awful rape gangs, it was all covered extensively in the media a few years ago.

The difference now it seems is the anger is directed at the current government and not the police at the time who were clearly complicit.

Maybe there is some truth in this observation:

While I think we are collectively more centrist than, say, the United States, my fear is that the zeitgeist is being steadily pushed further and further to the right by monied interests. Think tanks have had their people planted on Question Time and newspaper reviews for years. GB News exists purely to reframe the cultural debate in this country. The tabloid press has turned feral since the election in July, punting out headlines entirely at odds with reality on a daily basis. I hope that you're right about about the far right being a bridge too far but I'm not all that confident.

What I do think might save us in the short term is that Badenoch is showing no inclination to tack back towards the centre where elections are traditionally won. It looks like the Tories are going to try and occupy the same space as Reform, which hopefully means the two parties votes will be split for the time being.

I expect the Tories will eventually get tired of being in opposition, at which point they are faced with a choice. They could moderate their offering to the people and become more centrist, in much the same way as Cameron did. However, I've a sneaking feeling that the corporate buy out of the right is now so far advanced, that they are more likely to simply reach an accommodation with Reform. Whatever remains of the Conservative Party will be much further to the right than any version that has been in government to date.

Terrifying but then I'm a pessimistic old so and so.

I think that if the Tories do lurch further to the right, to grab votes back or go into coalition with Reform, that many true Conservatives will jump ship, most likely to the LibDems...

Money = power. Those with the most money (and power) currently back the far right. The Overton window has been moving right relentlessly for years now so I think it's only a matter of time before UKIP/Brexshit Party/Reform (or whatever the next incarnation is) slithers their way into government.
one could find claims of the Overton window going relentlessly left, i recall a very good example based on US politics. yet in the actual count, when it matters there's a few % in it. probably more accurate to say the Overton window has become wider, issue on either side considered radical generally are acceptable to more on the opposite side. that is the legacy of social media in all its forms, previously fringe, nutcase, offensive views are aired to a wide audience.

I think a lot of one nation conservatives have already jumped ship. Certainly all those amongst my friends and acquaintances. Unfortunately finding themselves completely without representation, a lot have had to vote for Starmer and those that really couldn't vote labour under any circumstances went Lib Dem.

You can see on NSC a whole load of posters who are very vocally 'centrist' or 'slightly right of centre' all over the various Labour political threads, now loving the fact they have the commie Starmer to go after for any and everything :lolol:

The complete irony being that Starmer is by far the nearest to centre right and one nation conservatives of all the parties and leaders that are left after the last election.

Whether, at the next election, they decide to go for more of their traditional centrist policies or chase Badenoch and Farage further and further right they will decide. I have to say that to date, I have been very surprised by some people on NSC, who I thought I understood quite well and always put forward quite reasonable points, but it seems the colour of the rosette is far more powerful than I thought.

It doesn't sound as if she is a fan of Sir Kier either

I really thought Keir would bring the country back closer together, it does seem he has divided opinion everywhere, and I have to say I regret my vote now, I thought he was clean and honest.
I don't know where my next vote will go, I will probably call it a day come polling day and leave it to the kids from now on.

Very well handled by NF I thought showing excellent denial skills.
And as far as publicity goes… everyone is laughing about it.

Gosh.

You remind me of the skinny boy, back in the day, who wanted to be subbed off ten minutes after KO because it had got a bit rainy and cold.

Good decision, it will be them that have to live with the outcome and we haven't done a great job over the last 20 years, have we
