Teams that go at us will be ripped to shreds. I think it shows how far we have come? Probably the most feared team in the Championship. Let's live with it and learn to beat these teams, in maybe a slightly different way?

Still looking good though, apart from the Sarf Lundun Sewage Works Sunday League Div 6A team above us. Normal service will be resumed very soon, of that I am sure.

You're not allowed to use 'how far we've come'. Some appear reluctant to appreciate what the club has done.

Sometimes I despair of Brighton fans. The negativity of some is unbelievable. A point at Derby is an excellent result and it could have been a win.

I think the results of others Cardiff, Leicester, Palace , Hull etc has just made this weekend a little harder to bear than normal. The performances against Ipswich & Birmingham were very disappointing especially after how well we played against Sheff Weds and we do need to bring in a quality striker but it all looks rosy. A couple of wins and people will be back to saying how great things are.

PS - our defence is superb (we with Tranmere are the best in the Football Leagues)

Over there
I think it is a compliment and was a very useful point away and another clean sheet meaning we have the meanest defence in the league.
We're just struggling a touch up front but is it any wonder considering C.M.S is out and the creative heart of our midfield missing. And just when it looked like Buckley might be our goalsoring spark today he limps off.
After the international break we will have a full team and the goals will come again.
And after reading the El abd interview on the official website about the team learning from the opener against Hull and easing off a little in the last ten, staying goal side and not losing a usful away point I'm even more encouraged about the maturity of the team, last season we would have lost games like today.
Have faith my fine friends, the creativity will come again after the break and I still feel Gus will come up with a little corker of a loan forward

I rather think it says more about a manager who is doing enough but will never excel, than it does about us.

I'd take 5th place only losing 2 out of the 10 in our 2nd season back in the championship. We have players to come back and we continue to play our style of football.

If we had a fully fit squad for our last two home games iam positive we would have won.

Remind me of your point after 20 games as in your theory we will only pick up a hand full of points won't we, 5 points away from home and what maybe 6 at home? Is this a fair assumption of what you are saying?
Not saying that at all. You seem to be happy that clubs are complimenting us, and how that means we've come a long way. The last three sides have changed the way they play, and we cannot counter it, just as we couldn't last season. What I am saying is would you be happy with that point total, because we are being paid a compliment. Teams will continue to play this way against us, all the time they avoid defeat. It happened last season twice, and its happening again. We cannot continue to play this way and except to win. Gus needs to change it when this happens.

You cannot bring up that line about a fully fit squad, as we'll never have one. Even when Vicente played last year, we couldn't win. Its not the players, its the system. Its too easy to counter if we dont score first and early, as has once again been proved this season. I believe the players in most cases are good enough. But they looked lost when teams park the bus, and clueless how to break them down.... and so frankly does Poyet.

Give it time and we will learn how to counter this. You've been around long enough to know that even the bottom three teams in this league are very good.

You'll also appreciate that five years ago we would have been delighted with a draw away at Derby and being fifth in the Championship, I know we still want to aim high but I think patience and support is the key for the time being we've come a long way very fast and it is natural and good to consolidate abit before kicking on.
You could have said exactly the same thing after the Palace defeat last season. We're 5th in the league and we'll learn how to counter it. We haven't though have we. How much time does it take to learn. Its been a year since this started happening, and we haven't learnt. I dont care how we would have felt 5 years ago. This is 2012. We have signed players from Manchester City, Manchester United over the summer. The club are spending aiming for the premiership. We have two years to get there or the playing budget will be cut. Why do you think we are only handing out 2 year deals to the likes of Kuzczak? We need to go into the premiership this season or next season at the latest, otherwise looking back to where we were a few years ago, will all we will have to look forward to.

IMO this issue needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. Poyet has to get a "plan B" for lack of a better phrase, and have an althernative style of playing otherwise we are heading for a re-run of last year, and if you are happy with that, then fine.

But if we go on a ten game winless streak with few goals scored, as we did at the exact same peroid last season, and Poyet looks incapable of changing it, and serving up frankly mind numbing football along the way, as looks like being the case at the moment, then I think you will find a lot people a lot less forgiving this time around, and not just on the terrace!

Do you not think though, the reason why it was disappointing against Ipswich and Birmingham, is becasue we didnt get the early goal, they sat back and we simply were incapable of breaking them down.

We scored early against Sheffield Wednesday and they had to try and attack us and we destroyed them

Barnsleys keeper gave us two early goals so they had to attack, and we destroyed them.

I dont doubt the ability of the side Gus puts out when the opposition have to attack.

Its when they dont attack and sit back, is where Poyet fails. Ipswich and Birmingham parked the bus and we were served up two of the most boring football matches most of us will have to sit though at Falmer.

Poyet is a genius when the opponents attack, there is no doubting that.

But as good as he is at that (and I struggle to see any better in this division), he appears as clueless how to play against a side doing the complete opposite, and until he can change that (and he's had a year to come up with something) then for me I doubt he is the chosen one to lead us to the promised land as we all hoped he would be.

Poyet, the man who has taken us from the foot of League One to 5th in the Championship. Consistent improvement every season?

Really?

The 'instant success' fans on here really do need a reality check. Why do some people expect Poyet to have it all sorted straight off the bat, he is still learning and still putting his team together. I say we should get behind them and him show a little patience and enjoy our continuing improvements. If we don't get promoted this year then so be it (I don't think we will without another quality striker).

It comes down to opinions though. Mr Burns thinks football is about systems, others think it is about players. I don't think the players are the best in the division, especially up front. We don't have £11 million to spend on a front pair like Nlackburn.

We should have won yesterday, hit the bar twice and Greer and Hammond managed to bump into each other with an open goal in front of them from three yards.

There is something to be said for the identical nature of the Brum & Ipswich matches.

They do set out the blue print to not be beaten, by us.
Many teams would see that as a point gained, but in time we could end up ruing the dropped points.

Gus needs to have a plan B, the lack of one cost us 5 points, in those 2 games.
We didn't need hindsight for the last hour v Ispwich to see what way the game was going.

based on the stats we have changed since last year. the shots on goal are significantly higher which means we are getting in to the dangerous areas unlike last season. it seems its a bit of luck/finishing quality that will make the difference now, not tactics. (we're also not picking up so many yellows too? )

Yep not much to argue with there.

But what's the deal when that's not working.

Yes I am happy clubs are complimenting us because it means we are doing something right.

I think we will have to agree to disagree then, because whilst I can see the positives you always seem to dwell on the negatives? Yes we will never have our squad always fully fit, but any club would struggle if you took out TWO of their most in form and influential players.

I don't recall you posting much when we were tearing teams apart just 3 games ago and we were sitting top of the league. I understand your point of needing to be able to unlock teams, gus knows that and has mentioned he is working on it, these things take time but mean while we are sitting 5th, even you must be fairly happy with our current position?

I could name various managers who spent shit loads more money than gus have and got nowhere near his achievement, that includes various in this same league. Not too sure why you appear to have such a dislike to gus?

As the saying goes, you can't please all the people all the time.

Lest we forgot not so long ago we used to lose at home to Walsall and Cheltenham Town, since Gus arrived we are a team that is respected and wins in a higher division

Having spent x amount of millions to get there.
If we were doing 'it' with the team that lost to Walsall, then by gimmerny that would be an achievement.
