I've been completely underwhelmed by We No Who U R (what an awful title for a song) and Jubilee Street (both the song and video) so am surprisingly stoic about not being able to get tickets. I think he's been far too prolific these last 3 or so years. The soundtrack to Lawless was very self-indulgent. It sounded messy - a bit like that Jam they did with Seasick Steve and Suicide at the end of that one-off gig for the first Grinderman album at Kentish Town. He does brilliant soundtracks when he chooses. The Road and Proposition are works of art. Lawless is horrible.

I think the bloke is an absolute genius and is my biggest musical hero but he needs a break. He got it right last time after he was going a bit stale and sub-Leonard Cohen. He released the Orpheus album, proving he still had an edge to him then went and had fun with Grinderman.

...and don't get me started on the Flaming Lips either. Their next project is a cover of the Stone Roses album with chums. Dear oh dear.

By the way - Dave Grohl has been collaborating with Elton John on a Queens of the Ston Age track. Rock n roll, eh?

Anyone heard anything on getting tickets for tomorrow? All I know is that Resident were offering some as part of a competition.

They were but its over now.
You had to redesign a Nick Cave album cover using fuzzy felt and a prick stick.

Thinking of popping along to King Alfred with a fistful of tenners in the hope that the doorman is easily bribed.

If that does not work it could be a curry in the Ganges instead.

Neither here nor there
I was at Brighton Station the other day, gazing blankly at the departures board, when I heard someone say 'oh nooooo' quietly next to me. It was him in a very sharp suit. He turned and ran out the concourse in DAINTY little steps.

He was queuing behind me in Carluccio's a few years ago, very unobtrusively, talking quietly to whoever he was with. Just before I got shown to an available table I heard Nick say to his friend it was clearly busy and maybe they should try somewhere else. Just what most normal people would do, I know, but it was somehow nice to see someone as well known and slightly scary as that being so free of ego.

A friend of mine saw him on the seafront doing that clumsy English male changing-into-a-pair-of-trunks-behind-a-towel thing a few years back. Was very amusing.

I'm sure it will be amazing and all, but it's only a rehearsal for the launch gig on Sunday, and it's pretty much press only, rather than humans...

He likes the invisibility of living in Hove. The new album is streaming here: Nick Cave The Bad Seeds – Push The Sky Away: Exclusive album stream | Music | guardian.co.uk

Thanks for the link- will give it a listen. Have to agree with Buzzer though- the two tracks already available are pretty MOR and lack the energy of Grinderman and Dig Lazarus. I was at the last King Alfred show and have to say it was brilliant. They played stuff from the first Grinderman album. Crowd was small and it felt a privilege to be there. Got a couple of older songs in at the end including The Mercy Seat which Mr Cave played on keyboard. My memory is poor at the best of tiimes and this may have happened elsewhere but I am sure someone proposed to their over half on the stage but that could have been a dream. To anyone going tonight- hope its a god one!

I've come back home.
Let hope he doesn't drive himself there  Buzzer knows what I'm talking about:cool:

Every self respecting lover of the art of Cave knows what your talking about. Great thing as well as i can cut out the new lights at Portland road without worrying about it. Cheers Nick!

Oh, and used to find it one of the funniest things ever when you'd occasionally see Nick Cave in Churchill Square in ill-advised parka and non-matching cords being seriously stressed by a couple of ankle-biters that his other half had presumably left him in charge of while she nipped into a shop

I went.

You didn't miss much

.......................... Unless you have any liking for Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds in which case you missed out on a f***ing SUPERB gig. New album followed by a good hour or so including 'From Her To Eternity', 'Your Funeral My Trial', "Stagger Lee", a particularly violent take on "The Mercy Seat', 'The Ship Song', 'Straight To You', 'Oh Children' and 'Deanna'.

Accompanied by a string section and a choir of kids.

Bravo

I can only imagine how good this was.

Out of interest- how did you get to go.
