Clearly this thread is ridiculous and bollocks, so I'm posting just to say that Andrea is, perhaps, the second best footballer I've ever seen play for us and the idea of getting rid of him because he's not quick enough defies belief.

This old chestnut again. Grummitt and Kuszczak were both 30 when they joined the club, not really the tail-end of a career. Beasant was 42, that's scarcely comparing like with like.

I'd say TK is the best goalie I've seen at Albion but there's very little between him and PG

I understand what the complete badger is saying regarding value but I would argue TK does represent value. As well as Brezavan has done in the few games he has played neither him or Casper are anywhere near the quality needed to gain promotion. League 1 keepers at best. TK is a an exceptional keeper at this level and the type of keeper needed to gain promotion. A keeper like that doesn't come round easily.

I don't think anyone is saying he is not a decent player. However Albion have too many "decent" midfield players- Forster Caskey, Andrews, Lopez, Orlandi, Stephens and not enough that can impact a game. Given a limited budget they need to concentrate their firepower on fewer but better players

Well with whatever happens it promises to be a very hectic summer with comings and goings. Something else I noticed in the web chat that Barber done the other day which made me a tad worried ... he said he hoped that they would apply the ffp rules as agreed

I suspect this season Albion will fall just short so there needs to be changes. I think the following probably need to go

Orlandi - lovely footballer but too slow for a team already lacking in pace
Agustien - just hasn't worked
Forster Caskey - not up to a leading championship side with Premiership pretensions
Hoskins - not quite good enough though difficult to tell on limited games
Rodriguez - not good enough on current evidence
Obika - back to spurs
Lopez - might keep as a utility back up player (played well at full back last year)
Stephens - limited on current evidence but might prove himself by end of season

These leaving would create the necessary budget to bring in a couple of fast mid field players and one more striker of high quality. That would move Brighton towards a team capable of reaching for automatic promotion. Quality rather than quantity should be the watchword

Pace seems to be valued far higher than any other attribute on NSC at the moment and I'm really not sure why. It certainly pays to have a few speedsters in the team but I'd rather have 10 Orlandi/Lopez type players on pitch than 10 Obikas (not a dig at the guy, actually thibk he could turn out well, just going for a pacey one).

I was actually thinking this morning that the future looks very bright for next season considering that JFC and Ince will have a lot more experience under their belts. I can see that players like Orlandi may go when we have the likes of Solly March coming through. That would save money that can be prioritised into other areas. Kuszscak is good but don't see why he would be guaranteed a move to the Premier League - there are other Championship goalkeepers just as talented. Ulloa is on a long contract so will only go if the price is right. The real area of concern for the next couple of seasons would be the defence I'd have thought, which is going to need considerable freshening up purely because of the ages of the players.

Fair enough, just thought I'd ask as a CM (he's not an attacking midfield) is difficult to judge on TV. I was watching him closely, often concentrating solely on him and his reading of the game is very clever. First of all as I said he's not an attacking midfielder, but will pop up in the box like Crofty.

This is how I see it. You have to watch him off the ball to get the full extent of what he's doing, he makes good runs and has a knack of finding space in the middle. I think he could turn out to be a very important player for us.

I'd love to see a midfield trio of Ince, Crofts and Stephens. I think those 3 would have the box to box area sewn up between them allowing the wide men a free reign to bomb forward.

You are not exactly giving a true picture as Grummett was 31 when he joined us having played over 400 games in the FL he then played 100+ for us before retiring so it was the tail end of his career. The same with Corrigan 35 years old having played over 400 league games also and he finished with us.. Kuszczak was 30 when he joined us having played 76 games for 3 teams in the FL but has since played more than that for us so definitely not at the end of his career.

thats not to say there a not other very good keepers available for less money.

Did you see Joe Corrigan play for the Albion, although in the twilight of his playing days, he was decent - not saying better than PIG - will let others compare.

When I saw Jack Buckand play in the Olympic games he looked useful [and young] - believe he is out on loan, but could he do a job replacing the PIG?

He was 30, not 31 till the August. Yes, he played a couple of seasons for us before retiring but that was because he was injured - goalies go on until their late 30s or even 40s, so he could have played for several more years. Conversely, TK could get a career-threatening injury tonight and he'd be in exactly the same position.

In hindsight, yes, PG didn't play that much longer but he was scarcely past his peak - he was superb during his time with us. Like I said, there was not much between him and TK, best two goalies that I've seen.
