I thought there wasn't going to be any trouble, it doesn't happen anymore, remember? Treat people with respect and there won't be any problems we were continually told. Well, what a surprise, it kicked off. And certain people on here's naivety was proven yet again.

Exactly.
Very predictable.
Just like the soft touch as the riots started, doesn't work with scum.

I would also question whether an evening game actually made it worse. Would it be easier to organise specific travel home for the Palace fans if it had been midday on a Saturday perhaps? Keep them in for 30mins and then bundle them off on the same train(s) or buses? Also stops people drinking all afternoon ahead of the game.

The club and police stated previously that they wanted to treat away fans with respect and therefore fans were not kept behind tonight which I understand. However given the running battles around the stadium and then worse at the stations do you think next time Palace fans should be kept behind for 30 minutes?

Poll to follow.

Absolutly not,it will only cause even more trouble. This is not the 70's anymore.

It was naive not to expect trouble...there really isn't much anyone can do to stop trouble in the City but the trouble at the ground was very disappointing. As mentioned already on here, it highlights the issues we have at the Amex for getting fans away in a reasonable period of time in an organised manner. The Police tried their best at the ground but with the bottleneck at Falmer station what more could they have done? The club's answer of asking fans to delay departure isn't going to work at evening games. They need trains with more than 3 carriages, they need more shuttle buses from the City and dare I say it more PARKING.

I did NOT SEE ANY TROUBLE.

Stayed behind in the ground for about 15 minutes, joines a queue for trains at Falmer, no trouble, got into Brighton station, no trouble going round the Palace fans, , got ona train at about 10.50 that filleed with Palace and BHA fans on which there was no trouble. Was home by 11.20 - no trouble.

I assume you didn't see the holocaust either but believe it happened?

What are you actually saying that there was no trouble and the 28 arrests and all reported trouble by several on here was just made up??!!

I was outside Brighton station when the Palace fans were escorted up to and into the station - with the gates closed behind them allowing them to all be loaded onto the Falmer train. This all seemed to work pretty well and the fans (and regular folk) kept outside the station for 15 minutes didn't seem to mind - except for the Gully's Girl who was stuck outside and late for work!

So I was surprised at the end of the game when there seemed to be very little presence at Falmer station as those of us who were waiting for the Brighton-bound train were at the mercy of Palace fans walking up the ramp to the Lewes train. There were plenty of occasions when they were happily goading the Albion fans below, and even openly spitting down on us. At this point, there wasn't a single Police Officer in sight for a good 10 minutes or so. Felt a bit let down by this. Also didn't really appreciate the Albion fans screaming and hurling very offensive insults at Palace fans who were gesturing "3-1" as they walked by. For what was only a bit of derby-day banter on their side, the Albion fans seemed to get way, way over the top.

Put simply, if the minority spoil it for the majority they should have their ticket allocation slashed next time round and not served alcohol.

That is not specifically anti-Palace. If we did the same at Selhurst I would suggest the same.

Also, as a Palace fan, I think we should have been kept in for 20 minutes. The bars were all open for us anyway, but they let us out into a crowd of Brighton fans who then decided to incite us from the stairs.

I saw little trouble from our fans, especially to the few Brighton fans who were being let past us to get onto a train.

The stones and bottles being lobbed by your fans at us was the main problem.

I'd imagine you'll have trouble getting permission to extend to 30k until the transport problems are sorted.

Exactly , naive in the highest. Pompey will be a similar thing. Actually think Millwall and West Ham will pass off ok. Personally f k Palace and Pompey , let them all out together and let them have to run the gauntlet. Hardly made it easy for us at Fratton. Gone are the days where teams can take the piss all the time out of us. Not advocating violence but it needs to be known if people take the piss then they play with fire

We stayed in the ground for about an hour after game and aside from the Lewes bound platform the area was totally clear, so most seemed to get away reasonably sharpish.

One thing I would question is having all these high profile and potentially difficult to manage games as evening fixtures when there are far fewer public transport options. Surely these sort of games would be far easier to oversee and organise on a saturday afternoon?

No , holding the fans in means it will be reciprocated when we travel away.

Too far from the sun
Walked round from the west to the P&R via the south stand exit. There were quite a few Palace fans making a bit of noise with only a few police around but it was almost all banter, apart from one really pissed brighton fan who decided to threaten the Palace fans on his own. No-one really took much notice of him which seemed to wind him up even more. It all seemed pretty good-natured so was really surprised to hear this morning about trouble at the station. The most trouble I saw all night was a pissed Albion 'fan' in the WSL who wanted to spend all game just swearing at everyone and making gestures at the Palace fans - didn't seem to be watching the game at all - and when someone politely asked him to tone it down a bit he decided to 'offer out' just about everyone sat near him.

I don't know if it's been written anywhere else, but the intention was for there to be a Palace 'football special' train that was waiting for them at Falmer after the game to take 1100 of them directly back to Croydon. For some reason this fell through late on.

This would obviously made a great difference to post-match stuff.

easy answer for high profile games is 'you only can buy a ticket if you buy a coach ticket too' then ferry them straight down and to the ground and straight off afterwards too (with half hour lock in maybe)

I know some will moan, civil rights, freedom of movement blah blah well dont come then, do you want a ticket for the game or not and if not someone else will'

And would have been the most sensible option as it would have kept us out of Brighton Station as well.

Police can arrest people for "public order offences" which as edna would tell you is a very wide catch all - I saw some idiot be dragged off by a copper for running around the station and not stopping when he was told to. I imagine that was included in the 28.
