Who was the last midfielder we had who scored that many?

Not a clue, its perhaps the least necessary position to replace, but will be (I feel) the thing that really tips the team over the edge, I think if we can get someone quality who can deliver the ball to the wingers/strikers well and consistently, and chip in with some goals himself, that'll be what pushes us up.

Edit: And I don't think its being THAT unrealistic, when was the last time we had someone who could go past a man as easily as LuaLua, or with the value of Arismendi.

I'd be amazed if we can attract a 15 goal a season midfielder. Not ruling it out though with Gus and Maurice in charge!

See edit, if we have this 10million that has been mentioned by a lot of 'in the know' people, that is the sort of quality player we should be looking at, I don't want 14-15 players out/in again, just 4-5 very good signings in the key attacking areas.

Agree it has been what we've been craving out for for god knows how many years. I just don't think there's that many around. I think the left winger and another will be more effective/realistic

Keeping Painter and Calderon will be top priority next season imo add a proven goalscorer and the squad we have currently should do rather well on recent showings.

Totally agree , I would add attacking midfielder/playmaker

£10 million in league 1, not a chance

keep what we have in calderon painter and brezovan, get an attacking midfielder 15+ goals a season), a new striker (20+ goals a season ) and a left winger (perhaps LuaLua)

)

Exactly what I have been saying for ages we either need another striker to complement Murray, like Billy Sharp, Gary Hooper or Aaron McLean or an attacking midfielder who is capable of scoring goals as per Chippy or Dodge, or dare I say it Dean Hammond or Sean Thornton.

There has got to be a huge improvement in home form if we are to mount a challenge next season.
Whether we can change this deep-rooted mindset at Withdean is open to debate. Players and fans alike will be looking forward to the new stadium but it doesn't mean that we are going to greatly improve our 30% win rate ( over the last 5-6 seasons )
We have to somehow reproduce the form of the ' full Wilkins season ' and that means getting off to a good start ( we won the first 3 home games that season )

That means playing some meaningful pre season friendlies not Crawley Tuesday. Eastbourne Wednesday and Worthing or Bognor on Saturday. I would like to see us go on a pre season tour of Scotland and play 4games aginst one from each division culminating with a team in the SPL.

Perhaps with their contacts Gus and Maurico will look at Spain.

Good call.
We are traditionally slow starters,we need a tougher pre season and need to hit the ground running.I think a Scottish pre season tour would be very beneficial.

I don't care who is in this division next season. We have proved recently that we are capable of matching all the top teams and in some cases beating them with our current first team. We are only going to get better when Tony B invests in the team. Clear out the remaining dead wood and bring it on!

Home form is crucial and would be worried if we dont finish this season strongly at home - yes agree hard pre season required - maybe Uruguay is a little to far ..

(New Keeper) fighting PB and FDM for #1

Calderon and Painter to stay. El-Abd and McNulty as cover. Virgo and Elphick as starting CBs. (Tunni as cover)

Bennett, Dicker, Crofts, Navarro, Lua Lua (Season long loan) plus (New Midfielder)

(New Striker), Murray, Holroyd, Dickinson (Yes I want him back), Forster

Goodbye Carole, Hawk, Hart, Davies, Smith, Cox, Wright

Pretty much agree with all of this. Especially that want Dickinson to come back

Why should we want Dickenson back he has proved that he cannot fit into our style of play so I would say sell him for as much as possible and use the money to buy somebody who could play to our system.

Monkhouse at Hartlepool?
Linked to us at the start of the transfer window having played under Gus previously.
Has a healthy scoring record from midfield.

Some people have short memories. This was supposed to be the season where we went up, remember. All that bullshit talk about our Twenty Goals A Season strikers. Sadly, many other clubs wanted it more.

You don't half talk some guff.

I don't think Dickinson is a "Poyet" style of player - i.e. a lump.

I think it all depends on how many players we sign. If we get rid of 10 and sign 10, then we are going to take a few months to gel and not be challenging from the start. We are then asking for a massive good run to catch up with everyone and get promoted.

If we only sign 4 or 5 at most, that doesnt involve tinkering with the starting 11 we have now too much, then there is more chance of gelling. Obviously we need to get rid of the deadwood again, but massive change, I feel, might backfire. Then again it could work and everyone is a winner
