Some of the methods of investigation are sort of scientific, and its certainly extremely far-fetched. But I am still not sure I'd call Death in Paradise 'sci-fi'?

Yes he would be excellent.

I am a massive Dr Who fan and am just finishing up the last few Jodie episodes, for the second time, having rewatched the lot from the first Ecclestone.

I think all the boiling piss about every new doctor just doesn't stand up. I was so disappointed with Capaldi first time through, but on second watch - sublime. And I hated Jodie for her gurning, and the right on ness of some stories, but watching it again, it is excellent and timely.

I am confident many of us will turn our noses up at the next incarnation, but I am also confident that on second watch it will be 'OK, I like this'. Capaldi was the first Dr Who after Ecclestone I'd ever heard of so I don't expect to have heard of the successor.

But I wish they'd make more episodes. This is a fabulous 'franchise' and it should be made furiously.

Steve coogan is a bloody good shout.
He has never sprung to mind as the doctor but now you have mentioned him I can imagine him in the role and he would be perfect.
