None of them have any mandate except Boris, who frankly shouldnt be allowed to run whilst being under investigation for misleading parliament, and having already been booted out by his own colleagues. The system is flawed, the electorate ought to have a right to a referendum at least to call for a general election. The conservatives had their chance to vote for a leader and royally f***ed it up by voting for truss who has walked in, thrown a hand grenade at the economy without a clue what she is doing, and left millions of people with mortgages completely screwed for the foreseeable. In answer to the question, being as there wont be a GE, and it's really a damage limitation exercise now until we are rid of this party, then Sunak is the one who would screw things up the least

Ah Boris has thankfully dropped out

Again Johnson tarnishes anyone he comes in contact with. I'd imagine those who supported him (after a promise of a cabinet job) are spitting blood tonight.

He never had the support but convinced a number of gullible nobodies he did.

You really have to question their intelligence and suitability for high office.

So, if the Tory membership are racist, as you imply, presumably you also consider the Labour membership to be both racist and sexist as they've only ever elected white men?
Of course. And Keir Starmer is a lizard distantly related to the royal family, didn't you realise? They all own unicorns, you know...........

I fear that there are a load of political shenanigans going on behind the scene to ensure Johnson ends up in a mix where he may get back in. If this is the case I hope that the investigations into him aren’t dropped. I hope that the case against him is proved and he has to step down again. At that stage I don’t see anything other than a general election which the Tories will lose by a landslide (Which will happen later anyway if Sunak or Mordaunt get selected).
Personally, I’d hate it if Johnson and his cronies get in.
Whilst I'd like Labour to win I'm not sure I'd want them to do so by a huge huge margin. The danger is when you get down the peckng
What a "see you next Tuesday", please Rishi don't give him a job.

They got what they deserved, self serving opportunists the lot of them. We will of course never know if you had 100+ but Johnson has form on lying. This is faux honour with the hope of getting some cushy job that he can exploit to his own gain

Like Trump for the sake of standards in public life he needs to be brought to justice, and includes all the Lebedev stuff

Onwards Britain, hopefully this moment is the bottom of barrel, everything needs to be repaired. What a terrible time its been politically for our nation

In a last desperate attempt to attract his backers,
Penny comes up with this BS about Johnson:

“Mordaunt, who currently has 25 backers, tweeted: “In taking this difficult decision last night Boris Johnson has put country before party, and party before self.
"He worked to secure the mandate and the majority we now enjoy. We should put it to good use, and I know he will work with us to do so."

Desperate times for her, he has never put anything before himself. By 2pm, it’ll be over. Thank god!

She'll be Labour's choice, another Truss without the IEA pulling the strings

Good news. Now all he has to do is unite the Conservative party, try to rebuild/salvage some sintilla of economic credibility, sort out the countries finances, keep the lights on this winter, deal with Putin, alleviate cost of living crisis, take on the unions, stop the NHS collapsing this winter and get the Tories into a position to at least have an outside chance of winning the next General election ...

Good luck Rishi !!👍
blimey, what a list! we're going to need a patriotic party in government, not one beholden to foriegn money

good luck indeed, sir kier

Well, I don't say such things very often, but well done the majority of tory MPs for rejecting Johnson and not letting him get his 100 nominations.

Johnson didn't get his 100, which is why he has withdrawn his name. That way, as the bloke on the radio said "we will never now know for sure how many MPs backed him". That means Johnson can say he was supported but decided to not stand.

Johnson has publicly declared he was 'uniquely placed' to stave off a general election, thereby at a stroke undermining the other candidates. This also proves he didn't get his 100 nominations.

He is also privately fuming that the party grandees set the bar so high (100 MPs) to get on the ballot. This again shows he didn't have the 102 MPs he claims he had, and still claims he had.

Is he perhaps......a liar?

Ha, ha. Now f*** off, Johnson. Nobody, apart from mad people, wants you.

bumble**** will be slowing dying inside. He envisaged riding into Blighty like some knight in shinning armour to save us from disaster …. Only to be told to ’f*** off‘ by his party because they don’t trust a word he says and the evidence for the party gate investigation must be damming.
He has been rejected and humiliated by his own party … magnificent.

bumble**** on his way to power, rode roughshod over the traditional Tory MP’s and so revenge is the order of the day the knives will be out. They know he‘s down but not out so I fully expect every closet to be emptied and every nasty little secret to be aired.
He’s toast and it will be humiliating.

I can't work out whether they are knowingly out of touch or wantonly out of touch?
