Starry, who is your local side, and how old is your lad? Presumably if he's under 16 he'd be playing 5v5 flag, which is easy and cheap as hell to organise. Most senior sides have a young flag side, and if not, it probably only needs a parent or someone who's willing to supervise the whole thing (need not be a coach, although theres a pretty simple NFL Flag Communty Leader badge thats easy to get), so I'd have a word with your local side.

Theres usually enough kids around the club (players sons etc) that once someone is willing to run it there'll be enough bodies to field a team, and its a wicked introduction to the game - how I got started!

If he's over 12 he should still be able to train kitted football with the youth team, just not play in BYAFA games.

we're in the middle really now that the thrashers are permanently based in winchester. either farnham knights or hampshire thrashers are our local team.

i would love to get the kids together, the knights have a youth team (16-18), the thrashers are a 'new' team and right now just have the full roster. with my work i wouldn't be really able to commit to it though i would like to. might be able to get my brother interested though. something to think about for 2009 i suppose.

out of those home teams would prefer the saints. can't stand the buccs at all.

all over now. hopefully it'll be 18-1.

Pats V Giants Superbowl, got to be a near walkover. I have to applaud the Giants though, never thought they'd get past the Packers, a very noble victory in itself.

I'm hoping the Texans make it over, hopefully against some other rubbish side that nobody cares about, then I'd definitely get a ticket!

Indeed not. Maybe if they did it like Glasto where your photo was on your ticket?

It did, but im starting to get a bit concerned at how close it's getting!

Hmmm, I'm a little bit wary of a system like that because yes, it stops the touts from taking us all for a ride, but it also makes it harder for tickets to be passed around between mates, and as there is no system to prioritise people, tickets fall into completely random hands.

Last year, in the end, most of my teammates managed to beg, borrow and steal their way in through spare tickets, making pacts when they signed up together etc, and I think this determination and sense of community made sure the "right" people got the tickets, i.e. if you really want one and know people in the game, you will get one. As someone who I understand to also be involved in the sport over here, I reckon you'd also hold the completely unreasonable opinion that we deserve tickets more than the rest!!

Just flown back from Boston (got back 2 hours ago) where we shared our hotel with half of San Diego and watched most of the game in the Cheers Bar opposite Boston Common. Two thoughts:

a) The Pats barely got out of first gear and still won comfortably. Although San Diego looked the better side in the opening quarter, the Pats took over as soon as they went behind.
b) If America is a fat country - and I think it is - then San Diego has got to be the fattest city of all. Pretty much every single charger fan in our hotel was a fat, fat f***.

That will count against them. I think they were shaky in the regular season at times (by their standards, still phenomonal), and it was momentum that carried them through to the 16-0. They haven't really broken sweat in the postseason, Brady at times looked off-sorts, and now a 2 week bye, I really think they are there for the taking by the Giants who are the form team.

Mind you, if anyone is gonna have a team well-prepared its BB.
