I think this thread is a good example of why a lot of people in Sussex dislike Brighton and Hove immensely. ( not me by the way, but the attitudes of some people who live in the city, well..)
I moved to Denton not long before the incinerator was built. One of the things i loved was the drive down the a26 from the beddingham roundabout. The ouse valley truly is a lovely bit of countryside. At the mouth of the river sits the scruffy litlle port of Newhaven, a place that is the definition of seen better days. However it's mostly low rise and no worse than Shoreham harbour and on a considerably smaller scale.
We now have a futuristic power station that is much bigger than any other construction in the town. It sits just to the north of newhaven, up river from the worst parts of the derelict port and completely dominates views . And it is this that is the worst aspect of the project the thing is completely out of scale with it's surroundings.
Now I'm not in a position to complain, i moved after permission was granted, and tbh we need more power generation and we need to deal with our refuse. However I can understand the bitterness of my neighbours who have had this thing foisted upon them, and sympathise with the belief that Newhaven was picked because it was far away from the leafy middle class ghettos of the councillors who voted for it.
