A Newcastle fan giving a very 'interesting' take on our success. That article is basically trying to say ''its fine to lose to Brighton, they've spent loads of money, all funded by Uncle Tony'' while failing to really give any details on the conveyor belt of players we've lost, and hundreds of millions in sales we've generated.
I did enjoy how he talks in specifics about Brighton having a higher net spend than Newcastle, and brushes past three particular years with “The following three seasons saw Newcastle United with higher net spends than Brighton”.

The three years in question totaled:
Brighton -£145m net spend
Newcastle £345m net spend

So that is a delta of almost HALF A BILLION they spent more than us, in the three seasons prior to this one.

The fact their squad isn’t worth more is not because Brighton have been looked after by Tony, but because Newcastle haven’t been as clever with their transfers (as noted by the author).

Perhaps we're learning a few more dark arts? I notice that at the coin toss we also 'turned them around ', swapping ends, which annoys the hell out of me when away teams do it at the Amex.

An aggregation of marginal gains
Worked for us, didn't work for spuds!!

Yep. Exactly what I thought. A brushing past of a very key point.

It rarely does at the Amex. I don’t know the stats, but I said one day, when the opposition won the toss and shot towards the south, it won’t work for them, and it didn’t.

Someone on here, was it @Washie?, came up with a mega spreadsheet showing the stats for this (and indeed for every other stat you could possibly dream of).

Thanks for posting this. I've been there 3 times I think, and every time has been sensational -- it's the best away trip. And yes you're right about their disgraceful positioning of away fans, but you've also illustrated perfectly that there are certain compensations to it.
I must one of the few that doesn’t have an issue with the view from the away end.

They should blame Dan Ashworth. Twice.

Forget the net spend, if you want to properly compare the teams as of today its better to look at purchase cost of the squad - for which according to transfermarkt is 620m euros for Newcastle and 383m euros for Brighton. Their squad cost significantly more than ours so his point is shite.

Is that for the entire squad?

Because the author also chose to ignore the average cost per player being higher for Newcastle. Kind of key given we don’t actually have all ~45 of our players in the PL squad
