Ah, I was saying that there's one moron clearly looking up at the away fans, goading them. The of the crowd there are staring in the other direction, clearly focussed on the game. My point was that there are a few morons in every support, but most fans are the same up and down the country.

OK - I understand - we now have TWO reasons for the acceptance of the Saudis:

2. NUFC were down to their last 40,000 (that's FORTY THOUSAND) fans.

Of course, our hearts bleed for you and your fellow PIF apologists.

What surprises me is that, having visited Newcastle 4 or 5 times to watch BHA, your fans are incredibly knowledgable about footie. They seem to have a genuine love for the game, way beyond just NUFC. Selling out to a bunch of murderers is SO FAR from what football is really about - it beggars belief, really.

Yes. But luckily it can all be neatly rationalised away by saying "It's their culture innit? They do things differently there and anyway who are we to criticise? After all Britain invented slavery and colonialism and we have an appalling Human Rights record so we're the last people who should be pointing fingers .... etc etc etc"

And to be slightly contentious if the boot was on the other foot and it was us who were Saudi-owned I bet there would be a fair few who would say exactly that.

Hmm. Hopefully we'll never find out, but I'm not so sure. What were/are the scale of the protests at Newcastle? Are there still massed demonstrations against the ownership? (Indeed were there any?)

I think football fans are football fans and ultimately as people we're no more holy and righteous than the Geordies. I'm not (really) denigrating our fanbase, because I'm sure we would protest, and more vehemently than the Newcastle fans, but I don't think that would be because we're morally superior, more that because at Newcastle the Saudis took over from an extremely unpopular owner, whereas any change of ownership at Brighton will mean replacing a man most of us regard as almost a living saint. Ultimately though I think those who mumble "I just wanna watch football and see my team do well" will win.

Anyway, like I say, all hypothetical and I hope we NEVER have to find out how we'd behave.
