You have made up what that particular group of fans were singing at that particular point in time. Only a minor point but it does suggest a desire to vindicate the Newcastle support rather than debate the issues.
Sorry, I don't want to get bogged down in minutiae, and I think I've got lost in this thread, but I honestly don't know which particular group of fans or chant you're referring to?

In the news(ish) today...

“The PIF under Mohammed bin Salman has facilitated and benefited from human rights abuses directly linked to the Crown Prince." The owners of Newcastle United are directly involved in human rights abuses, according to a US Senate hearing

'The Premier League were given "legally binding assurances" that Newcastle would not be controlled by the Saudi State'

And the Prem League will do nothing - bottlers

No worries. I think it was the third photo in post 187 that I assumed we were discussing.
Ah, I was saying that there's one moron clearly looking up at the away fans, goading them. The of the crowd there are staring in the other direction, clearly focussed on the game. My point was that there are a few morons in every support, but most fans are the same up and down the country.

Way out West
40,000.
20% of the regular matchgoing fans had had enough. It was sufficiently significant that the club literally gave away 10,000 half-season tickets.
Just catching up (!).

OK - I understand - we now have TWO reasons for the acceptance of the Saudis:

1. The football was crap under Benitez and Bruce
2. NUFC were down to their last 40,000 (that's FORTY THOUSAND) fans.

Of course, our hearts bleed for you and your fellow PIF apologists.

What surprises me is that, having visited Newcastle 4 or 5 times to watch BHA, your fans are incredibly knowledgable about footie. They seem to have a genuine love for the game, way beyond just NUFC. Selling out to a bunch of murderers is SO FAR from what football is really about - it beggars belief, really.

Not sure the fans have sold out to anybody. It's the footballing authorities that have done all the selling out, surely?

I genuinely can not understand any women who supports Newcastle not protesting their asses of to get rid of these owners from the club.

Could not agree more. Utterly disgusting owners and all the Saudi shills bleat about is not being allowed to spend the billions that their owners possess.

I'm certain they will consider about it momentarily before speculating on what signings they will be able to make this summer
Yes. But luckily it can all be neatly rationalised away by saying "It's their culture innit? They do things differently there and anyway who are we to criticise? After all Britain invented slavery and colonialism and we have an appalling Human Rights record so we're the last people who should be pointing fingers .... etc etc etc"

And to be slightly contentious if the boot was on the other foot and it was us who were Saudi-owned I bet there would be a fair few who would say exactly that.

But many many more cancelling their season tickets and protesting the sale of the club at every match

Unpopular owners can be forced out by a united fan base. We should know this.

And Britain clearly didn't invent slavery or colonialism, they both pre-date our nation by many years. But I don't seek to defend our countries record in adopting these practices

If the Saudis did say that, they’d be airbrushing out 2,000 years of Arabian history. Their custom was to enslave Africans and others, estimates at 10m.

Yes, I know, that's why I put it as an imagined quote. But also you know the levels of 'whataboutery' that these disagreements can descend to.

Hmm. Hopefully we'll never find out, but I'm not so sure. What were/are the scale of the protests at Newcastle? Are there still massed demonstrations against the ownership? (Indeed were there any?)

I think football fans are football fans and ultimately as people we're no more holy and righteous than the Geordies. I'm not (really) denigrating our fanbase, because I'm sure we would protest, and more vehemently than the Newcastle fans, but I don't think that would be because we're morally superior, more that because at Newcastle the Saudis took over from an extremely unpopular owner, whereas any change of ownership at Brighton will mean replacing a man most of us regard as almost a living saint. Ultimately though I think those who mumble "I just wanna watch football and see my team do well" will win.

Anyway, like I say, all hypothetical and I hope we NEVER have to find out how we'd behave.
