The dull part of the south coast
Easy - Newcastle Arms - just 5 minutes from the Away end near Chinatown. A few Albion will be in there and I've never witnessed any bother. In fact I've always been made welcome in any pub near the ground. But you'll be walking past lots of watering holes coming up from the station or just few steps off the beaten track. My favourite away game by a country mile
Talk of beaten track! The Centurion, actually in Newcastle station, is a great pub. It used to be the first class waiting room in years gone by. On the last two occasions we played Newcastle that was my first stop off point for a pint. Really friendly and the Geordie fans very welcoming.

Was not there. Helpdesk sorted out by sending ticket email to another alias (business email address); I could forward from alias to personal email and download. No idea why it didn't work first time.

I have had intermittent issues with Albion tickets emails not arriving (Everton A last season was another; judging from the huge box of paper tickets in their office, many others also had problems).

You'll always a have a very warm welcome & have no trouble in any pub in Newcastle - in fact they seem to treat us like royalty (probably in part due to respect for the huge distance travelled)
Not sure there is any other city in the country where fans stop you in street for a chat. Conversation always starts with ‘it’s great that you travelled up’, followed by lots of footy chat and finishes with ‘enjoy the city, hope it’s great game’. I love the place!

First experience was 2018/19. Met Depor Junior in York and then train up to Newcastle. Train start filling up with Newcastle fans and one sat down opposite us. It’s December so he’s just wearing a Newcastle top. He’s covered in tats, all muscle and looks he’s been cage fighting a bear. It transpired that he fixed farm machinery. A lovely bloke, very knowledgeable about footy and also very funny!
A great day out.

I was probably on the same train! End of December so the train was rammed with revellers going up to Edinburgh for Hogmanay. I managed to position myself by the buffet bar - very convenient! A load of Geordies got on at York (as per your post) and we had a great time chatting football related stuff. And they still love Chris Hughton by the way. :drink:

For those who like a bit a craft, the Newcastle Tap pretty much opposite the station is decent, but busy. For those with a bit more time, then I heartily recommend Beer Street Micropub. Turn right out station, right again through the railway bridge, then first left. Good selection of cans for the journey back as well.

I guess this is the closest thing we have to a European fixture travelling to this exotic far away land, so gonna enjoy it

Two lots of two still available. I guess we know where the Albion freebie area is now

Me mam lives in Newcastle. My favourite pubs are

-Centurion. It's in the station and the only good pub I've ever been to that's in a train station !
-Bodega. Great ales and a very ornate ceiling. It's basically on the way to the ground from the station
-Newcastle Arms. You can walk from the Bodega throught Chinatown to get here. Another friendly boozer and near the ground
-if you like Guinness, this is a bit niche but try the Tyneside Irish Centre at the gates of chinatown. It's a social club so you'll probably have to slip em a quid to get in. It's a bit shabby but great Guinness
-Strawberry which is opposite SJP...you probably won't get in here around game time. It's not actually that great a pub other than the fact that its basically a Newcastle United museum
-Trent House...also near the ground and quite small so you might struggle to get in but it's another good pub

Further out

-Freetrade Inn...great beer and fantastic views of the Tyne
-The Bridge...quite a big pub and always has good beer on..the (quite small) garden has great views over the river
-Crown Posada...tiny little pub near Quayside. Good beer

But to be honest there's so many good pubs in Newcastle. Geordies love a pint ! You can probably tell when somewhere is gonna be a dive

Thank you for this cracking tip. Landed at 9am ish. Done breakfast by 10:15 at Oliver's in the covered market (excellent). Knocking on the door of the Newcastle Arms pretty much after opening (x2 BHA in there already :). Spent 3-4 very happy hours in the Newcastle Arms pre-match, watching it fill up at a steady pace with what felt like 50/50 BHA + Toon. Wonderful friendly boozer, fans mixing freely and healthy banter all round. As it should be. Even the Guinness was under £6.

As I left, after a fun chat with some Geordies, one said, "fanks for travelling oop, good luck to ya, lot of respect to Brighton.... but I 'ope we fooookin smash ya.." :ROFLMAO:
(Turns out we smash [and grabbed] you! haha)

Newcastle is a fantastic place, a real jewel of England. The view from the away end in SJP is fine, it's too high and there should be an option at ground level but it means you see how the whole game plays out and also you get a lovely view over the top of the Gallowgate End and out into rural areas beyond Newcastle. The stadium is atmospheric, the city is beautiful and the people are mostly friendly and engaging. Get yourself out of an evening and wait for the Gregg's fresh pasties bell-ringing ceremony (assuming it still happens!) which brings one hell of a queue to the (possibly more than one!) 24/7 Greggs outlet(s) in town.
☝️100% accurate description. One of the best ever away days. Absolutely loved it. After years of trying, finally, it fell on a 3pm Saturday that I could make.

First visit.. never knew they had a proper/decent Tube/Metro system up there (excuse ignorance). The Geordies are refreshingly great. Out for a bloody good time, all the time. Super friendly and wow, it's a proper religion up there. City crawling with Toons shirts at 09:30am. A bog standard league match is literally an all day event. St. James Park genuinely amazing ground.

And wow, coming out the ground (city locations still the best by a mile), the place is buzzing.. pavements packed.. felt like Xmas or New Years Eve. Spent the post-match in the Newcastle Tap with the locals which was great. Had to catch a 8:30pm flight back.. and we were all gutted to leave the party town. Will do it again and stay over!

Whilst in the Newcastle Arms and after being engaged in conversation I simply said "I hope you lose" and one of them suspected we would be right. He had this gut feeling. Newcastle turned out to be the friendliest place I have ever experienced. What a great bunch!! RESPECT

Love to hear that - I have always found Newcastle a very special place and one of the few places I'd leave Brighton for to live. There's a very special vibe about the City and the people are a huge reason why that's the case for me.

Be sure to tick this one off then, next time you have the chance:

York Tap in... erm, York Station, is very good as well. Run by the same lads as the Sheffield one. Great range of beer, occasionally a slightly odd smell.

The little pub in Doncaster station is good as well.

And I'm getting distracted now, but the pub in Stoke station's decent, whatever it's actually called. Admittedly last time I had to do my best "football match? What? I'm just waiting for a train to Manchester" to be allowed in after the game.

Anyway, I was supposed to be meeting my Geordie friends in The Town Mouse before the game on Saturday, but pulled out after realising that this was pretty much incompatible with me doing Sober October. I think this is the worst away day for that, with the possible exception of Liverpool.

bloody hell you have just listed all my favourite Newcastle pubs! You are clearly a man with great taste! I'd add in Baccas, The Tyne and for an off the wall cocktail experience the WC in the Bigg Market
