New York in December (not just over Xmas day) would be the perfect winter holiday!

Depends on budget but mid town is in the heart of everthing. Lots of hotels so best get quotes/deals from a few websites. The last time I went we got a really good deal in a hotel in the Financial District in lower Manhattan but it's about 2/3 miles way from the Rockefeller centre although the metro is good in NY.

Booking 7 nights in NY from 21st December to December 28th.
Has anyone been to NYC over Xmas, and/or can anyone recommend hotels close to Rockefeller/Times Sq.

Salisbury Hotel & Hotel St. James both look decent so far.

This will be my first time in the Big Apple so any recommendations would be appreciated :D

I've stayed at the Salisbury and it was fine. Get your dollar bills ready though.

I stayed in the Roosevelt at the end of last month and it was fantastic, right in the middle of manhattan three blocks from Times square, the whole experience was incredible.

NY at Christmas is amazing, one thing you MUST DO is go and see the Radio City Christmas Show with the Rocketts - see the web site at Radiocitychristmas and book your seats now - you won't be disappointed!

I'm off to NYC in November and thinking of staying in Brooklyn. Which areas/hotels can you recommend? Bedford Avenue seems fun. Any others?

Bedford Ave and the surrounding areas of Williamsburg and Greenpoint are indeed fun ! - there is a swanky new hotel in Williamsburg called the Wythe Hotel (Wythe Hotel) - fantastic rooftop bar and right in the centre of the action. Minutes walk to the L Train for the subway into Manhattan. Loads of bars and restaurants in the local area (too many to mention). Try and get a reservation at Peter Lugers - Best steak bar none (suggest you book now though as reservations are very difficult to get)

Happy to provide loads more suggestions for the area if needed

Agree. We went a few years ago and Radio City on Christmas day afternoon was a highlight as was dinner at the restaurant in the Rockerfeller Centre that looks out directly onto the ice rink. Christmas morning in Central Park watching the ice skaters and eating hot dogs was also fun. Lovely place - want to go again!

We stayed at the world centre hotel which overlooks where the new towers being built. Amazing hotel, a bit noisy outside where the building work is going on. Went to New Jersey to see the Devils play the LA Kings, couldn't believe they were playing each other a few months later in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Sadly the Wythe Hotel is fully booked for one night of the 8 for which I will need it. I'm also now looking at the idea of renting an apartment and will include Williamsburg and Greenpoint in my search. Thanks for this info.

While I'm here, we have a few hours to kill before the Yankees game a week Monday. Any suggestions? Is there much else to do up in the Bronx?
