New York Over Xmas

I have spent several christmas's in NYC and Tavern on the Green is fab for xmas lunch. It is situated in Central Park right by finishing line of NYC marathon. Some shops will be open xmas day and street sellers and loads people about walking. Boxing day doesn't exist in USA so everything back to normal on 26th which is good. Taxi drivers not very good most don't speak english or know where anything is.

Unfortunately Tavern on the Green has been shut since 2009 and is not due to re-open until Summer next year

While I'm here, we have a few hours to kill before the Yankees game a week Monday. Any suggestions? Is there much else to do up in the Bronx?

In all seriousness, the Bronx Zoo is actually v v good but its a bit out of the way past Yankee Stadium. Your best bet might be to have a wander around Columbus Circle / Central Park or either of the Upper East or West sides - Yankee Stadium is right next to the subway and only 15/20 mins from manhattan

That's exactly where me and Conkers are staying next weekend!

Havent stayed there but it looks pretty nice - regularly go past on the way to the in-laws up in Washington Hieghts - theres a really good coffee and brunch place not far from there - Sages General store Sage General Store

Booking 7 nights in NY from 21st December to December 28th.
Has anyone been to NYC over Xmas, and/or can anyone recommend hotels close to Rockefeller/Times Sq.

Salisbury Hotel & Hotel St. James both look decent so far.

This will be my first time in the Big Apple so any recommendations would be appreciated

I spent Christmas and New Year there last year as a matter of fact,..... I have been a few times, but the Affinia Manhatten right opposite Madisaon Square Garden on 7th Avenue was great.... you can see Times Square up 7th from there,.. it is a really good location, 1 block from Maceys, 3 blocks from Empire State,.... all round great location. You must go to Bryant Park at night...... its as festive a spot as you will find..... superb,.... and book a table at Keens,..... THE VERY BEST restaurant I have been to, bar none.
