If you have a choice of flying to JFK or Newark take Newark. Unless it's changed JFK used to be a taxi into Manhatten costing $40 to $45. Newark has a free train off the airport then change platforms to a 1 stop service that brings you out at Penn station right at Madison Square Garden, bang smack in the middle of Manhatten

Maybe you know something mapquest.com doesn't because they say EWR is 15.94 miles, JFK is 17.86

The Sofitel is great. Relatively new with a smart bistro and it's very central - three/four blocks across from Times Square one way and GCS the other.

In a cab, JFK to NY is $55 including tip and tolls. Cost me over $70 going to Newark.

This is why I said get the train, last time I used it it cost about $8 and took about 20 minutes

If you want to make it special, I'd recommend the Hilton Club

If you just look at the price, it appears expensive but that includes an eat all you want continental breakfast and a 2 hour 'Manager's Reception' in the evening ie get pissed free before you go out for dinner.

We had a 2 bedroom suite with a lounge with a huge plasma tv. Huge bathroom and a shower room.
