We're going to the Pilot Boat for a slap up meal around 7 and then will see in New Years at the Ship where Dave has kindly reduced his prices for regulars to a tenner and the atmosphere should be electric as we let Toby Anstis see in the New Year with us.

We're looking after our grandson, so we'll be watching stuff like Grizzy and the Lemmings, playing with Lego, probably a few games of dinosaur pairs and then bed by 9pm.

The doris is working and won't get home till 8.30. I plan on indulging in a few late afternoon / early evening shandies down the local, then sloping off home before it starts getting silly there. I don't like DJs. I'll organise a tempting platter of various cheeses, crackers, pickles, cold meats, Ferrero Roche, Twiglets, Cheeselets, shortbread etc for when she walks in. Then we'll channel-hop our way to midnight along with a dazzling array of Christmas grog. I'm a fan of the annual Big Fat Quiz on C4, so hopefully that'll be knocking about.

Then I'll watch the London Eye fireworks from the comfortable security of my sofa, whilst trying to fathom how on earth anyone can possibly be ARSED to make their way to central London on NYE for it, then battle their way back home, hotel or to their Air B&B afterwards. Mental. Absolutely mental.

After that, I'll probably fall asleep in front of Home Alone, or something. Perfick old fart NYE.

Normally visit friends for a night in, but we’ve decided to go to Spellbound at the Komedia for a rare out-out NYE. Really good music and a decent crowd of people who really appreciate the tunes. I’m looking forward to it
