Does it work we had the worst away record last year other than Coventry and they were relegated so where is your argument on that basis. So I would regard you as pretty clueless as well. We all have an opinion.
I give up.

Meopham, Kent.
Don't think it matters who we sign on last nights show. We are losing and what does Gus do brings on a defender to replace a midfielder. When he eventually brings on a forward (to late) he, Agdestien did better in that short time than anyone had done all game. If Gus thinks we are Barcelona and we don't need a centre forward he is deluded. It does not seem as if he learnt anything from last year and plan A is Plan B. I look forward to us now winning the league.:lolol:

I assume you meant Spain there, and not Barcelona. Messi is a forward, and tbh, a rather good one, surprised you forgot about him. :D

You serious?? Was last season and the one before boring?

Are you serious, last season???..Only Coventry scored less away than us and look what happened to them. Most home games were dull until 70 mins when Poyet either bought on Buckley or Vicente. Yes there were some high points but overall it was boring predictable and dull, yes.....especially away from home, where unfortunately we have to play half our games and they do go towards where you finish. Which is just as well we play half at the Amex as well, otherwise we would be playing Coventry this season.

Gus's quote in the Argus today intimates that away we are going to create two or three chances a game and we need a striker to convert one of those chances, on that basis he is looking to win every away game 1-0 with a style that works at home because we are not under so much pressure in our half of the field. Away it is the other way round. If we only create three chances away per game we will lose or draw more than we win. I am not saying he wants a total plan B, but surely we need to adjust our tactics slightly for away games. Last years results proved something did not work. Silky skills worked in league one, but after the early start of last season we were "found out" and the more experienced managers changed their tactics to win games and put us under more pressure higher up the pitch. These are my thoughts and I also respect yours.

Brighton factually.....
I get the feeling Gus had one or two prime targets, and deals could not be acheived due to the fee or wage demands. So I feel it will be another loan signing, even though Gus has stated he does not like loan signings. We will see.....

people like you will never be happy when was the last time we finished as high as 10th in the second tier over 20 years ago so gus must be doing something right, or would you rather we was playing back at withdean with mickey adams in charge just long ball after long ball, i suggest you watch and enjoy the style we play because if gus leaves it will be a totally different style and then people like you can moan why dont we ever keep possession like we did when gus was here

People of a certain age, as the song goes. Do you really think the Albion's history started twenty years ago???....You mention Adams long ball hoof style, it was what it was, rejects, freebie's, journeymen and the odd couple of grand spent here and there, with the exception of BZ, £100K, OMG it was like nothing we could ever had expected...Tell me, if you won the lottery tonight would you keep you car if it was an old banger, or would you keep it just so you can remind yourself, that it was a bit crappy but it got you from a to b.....This club has been around longer then twenty years, some of us can remember it unlike you. So it's not really your fault you have nothing to compare it to....I'm telling you now, Mullery's team of 78 and the team Cattlin was building on a shoestring around 84/85, now that was entertainment and both far better than this atm.

It really all depends what you aspire to. Firstly I think the £10k wages is a smokescreen, I think there are several members of the squad on more than that, but I digress.
If we can't afford the people we go after, then why go after them in the first place. It's widely rumored that Beckford is on £40k a week, so does anyone in there right mind honestly think he is going to come here, as with Zamora/Heskey/Rhodes or Cole. Now that said if one of them suddenly turns up, then you know this wage cap thing is a load of old bollocks....Back to the £10k a week, well Craig Davies managed 11goals in a weak side in this division, Henderson got 19 was it, Iwelumo is proven at this level. Now I am not saying I want any of those, but you can't deny they all done a job for their clubs and they would all be easily affordable. Maybe Poyet sets his sights a little to high, if he knows he can't afford them, then why chase them in the first place and waste pre season.

Good reply, fair points. I think the issue is that the cheaper strikers aren't worth bringing into the team - we saw that with Vokes & Paynter last season. So we chase strikers that "push the boat out" in terms of affordability as really they are the only players that can take our team up.

Personally I think we should have done our best a couple of seasons ago to find a young player in the 'beckford' physique and try and bring them through, but I appreciate it isn't that easy.

I do agree that it is odd that we seem to chase players we can't afford, perhaps it is not that black and white though, and they are right on the edge of our budget- resulting in these drawn out sagas?

Fu*k me did he actually say that?
That's bloody annoying and very disturbing if he says we'll have a few chances a game away from home,we have some amazing attacking players.Im really worried now that he will dump our wingers on the bench and isolate strikers yet again, why is gus so fu*king negative?
Sadly it's goner be a very boring for away fans this season:nono:

How can you possibly gun for promotion with negative away tactics?
It pains me to say it but gus just doesn't utilise our squad properly and doesn't play to our strenghs, this could be his last season sadly.

I know your entitled to your opinion but come on Kevtherev last season was hardly dull. Anyway this is all getting off topic. I think next week, Tuesday 5.41.

But surely one is worth it, if only to give you another option. We need two strikers imo, the one we are after, whoever he is and someone like Connolly, proven experience. Someone who can come of the bench and poach a goal and has done it for years and years wherever he has been.

Its okay. We away fans are used to it. If West Ham, Burnley and Barnsley to wrap up the season we're anything to go by, I'm taking a book to read with me this season

HALLELUJAH

I have never hear Fergie or Clough or anyone for that matter apart from Poyet, tell the opposition exactly what we are going to do and we change for no one. If you want to play like Barcelona that's fine, but I think you might find you need Xavi, Iniesta, Messi etc,,,,not Dicker, Harley and Barnes..Teams know exactly what we are going to do, so they let us have 75% possession in our own half, where they know we can't hurt them and just wait for there chance, which they will always get. It's not exciting, it's woeful, dull and boring.
PRAISE THE LORD!! Someone else not towing the party line, and daring to speak out!!!! Careful, the bigger boys will start ignoring you.......

I have to agree kev,got bored at times waiting for something to happen, the sky commentators also get very bored with our negative approach,it's all about defending for gus im afraid. When you have attackers like we have you need them on the pitch for 90 mins not 20 mins, seems gus is obsessed with a 0-0 til the 70th minute.I think I'm one of the very few that actually hate our style of play which is supposed to be attractive to watch,it's so bad at times that i get a headache because of the frustration.:nono:

Why would you think, just because someone calls Gus' style boring, that they want long ball after long ball. Do you not see that there are a lot of different styles in between Gus' boring two or three shots on target a game style, and playing hoof ball?

Don't worry, your not alone....If you remember a few short weeks ago, people were slagging off Spain for being boring and just tapping it around. The difference is, they then flicked the switch and the goals came in floods. We can do the first bit really well, but when we flick the switch, we find out we need to put a bulb in......

Agree, think we would have made the playoffs if we had managed to convince Kevin Phillips to join last season... But have to say I disagree re Vokes & Paynter, think players need more class than just being a lump these days. Personal view!
