If he could take free kicks it wouldn't be so bad but he can't. [/B]

Watson is only in the team for this very reason and yet the last decent free kick he took was at Port Vale about 18 months ago!

He needs to go

We don't need a prolific goalscorer (although one would be nice). We already have one of those in Knight. What we need is someone with a presence up front, will hold the ball up and link well with Leon. Whilst I am becoming a McPhee fan as he works hard, has done quite well, he still needs to work on his link play and holding the ball up. I think Benjamin will provide that.

Exactely, but how can he do this when we keep replacing him with loan players!

This is not the way to bring youth into the squad! Play them, slag them off on the radio and then get a loan player in to replace them! I bet McPhee's confidence is sky high at the moment!

Border country.East Preston.
A colleague of mine at work who has recently played for Colchester says he's crap and was bought by Leicester on the back of one good goal against Sheff Weds while at Cambridge.
Says he's not even a good target man for Neon.

I don't agree, any big b@stard alongside LK has got to be good.

Is anyone else worried that our new tactic will be to skp passing through the midfield and get Danny or Guy to smack the ball up the pitch to Benjamin to knock down to Leon? We've always been a team that could pass the ball, I'd hate to see us revert to typical 3rd division standards.
But then any step that might get us promotion and a few extra pennies can only be good.
Good luck new boy.

Also is anyone else concerned by McGhee continually harping on about needing a big centre forward to knock the ball down for Knight?

If the ball was played along the floor through midfield as it is supposed to rather than hoofed up front from defence then this wouldn't be as necessary!

I refer the honerable gentleman to the comments I made a few moments ago...

What do you mean our new tactic? That has always been Cullip's tactic (incidentally WHY is he taking all our free kicks these days?), and it is a favoured tactic of Butters as well although to be fair, he is usually reasonably accurate with his hoofs.

I think the point is, we tend to resort to long hoofs at times anyway, so we may as well have someone who can get on the end of them in the meantime without being beaten up by QPR's thug defenders. I think he's been brought in as Leon's minder for the weekend.

Not really the kind of thinking I like to see from a manager!!

"Oh well, we just keep on hoofing it! I don't know what else to do so I'll go and buy someone who might be able to get on the end of a few hoofs!"

rather than the prefered:

"Unless you have no other options please keep hoofing the ball to a minimum. We have a class striker who scores for fun at the other end of the pitch. However, he's only 5'4" and so he'll require service on the floor. Defence please try to unload the ball to midfield when possible. Midfield, it is your job to spread the ball out wide to Jones or Hart. If that is not an option either lay a through ball along the ground as Knight will probably out pace the defender. Or you could lob it over the top for McPhee to hold up and lay off or shoot. Or you could try and break through the defence yourselfs and have a pop or lay it off. If this breaks down, don't panic as there will be four defenders behind you to take the pressure whilst you regroup. Ok lads? Right, now kiss the badge on your shirts and get out there and win it!!!! Seeeeeaaaaaaaggguuuuuuuullllsss!!! Come on let's do it for those poor bastards who are paying our inflated wages to sit in the rain with no atmosphere! Come on!!!! Let's hear your war crys!! MUUUMMMMMMRRRRRAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! THE EVVVVVEEERRRR LIVVVVINGGGG!!!!"

Ok I may have lost it a bit towards the end but you get my drift!

His scoring record does not sound great at Cambridge, but for the last two seasons he was there, he formed an excellent partnership with Martin Butler (now at Rotherham) and scored frequently......apart from a decent midfielder and two new full backs, a "target man" was required by BHA FC, so I for one are happy with the signing

I think we'll be getting Dean Marney from Tottenham on loan. He can play full back/midfield. Was on loan at Swindon last year and they think very highly of him.

That will be our last loan wont it? Unless we make one of the deals permanent, and as i understand it we can only have a maximum of 3 months on any player now, we'd lose them before the play offs if we got there.

Good luck. I hope Trevor has a great partnership up front with Leon. If he does that, hopefully he will get a full contract, and that gives us further options with McPhee able to learn more.

True but I am using the FACTS to come to my decision ie. crap goal per game ratio - not hear say

HHHHHHHRRROBBOOOO:wave:

Hmmm well if you had done that with regards to Leon Knight you would have come to the same conclusion.
He scored loads at Huddersfield but none at QPR................

Benjamin may work well with Knight and score loads............give him a chance.

Yep. I think McGhee will wait and see how this new loan turns out. We may want to use our last loan to loan Benjamin for a second time.

Give Charlie a chace in the first team? Are you having a laugh? He's been with us for 4years in the first team. How many games do you need to see a player to see if he's any good?

Oatway is a good squad play and man marker. i.e. When Pompey came down he was given the job of marking Merson out of the game. He did a good job. As for knocking the ball about and making through balls he is not the player we need. If he could take free kicks it wouldn't be so bad but he can't.

We need to progress as a club and not go backwards. In my view Charlie is not good enough to be an automatic choice for the first team. His commitment is terrific but his distribution is poor, as is his level of skill. Sad I know but true.
