Unbelievable that the servers still aren't fixed even after 3 full days.
Apart from small map sizes, the only thing holding this game back in reviews are the servers, shame really.

expect they will release bigger maps as pay content or something. For now they want us having many small ones to try the connections between cities etc.

And 44.00 as well to buy. Bit of a rip off price. I will stick with Sim City 4.

Why don't they just have a straight download you can play locally on your machine, and if you want to play online with other people you can. I hate all this online shit for games.

You never really own the software.

Telegraph have 'first impressions' up on the website... main issue appears to be small cityscapes. A real pity - I genuinely don't understand the desire to make almost every game that's released now some kind of multiplayer, internet-based experience. I'm quite happy sitting playing alone in my own home without having to interact with other saddos, thank you very much!

You can play it on your own. You just take control of ever city in the region.

Yes, I've read that, but what if I don't want to reconstruct the 'golden square' of Leeds-Bradford-Huddersfield-Wakefield and instead want to create a new London? Seemingly that's impossible, and it's done simply to ensure that each city is a small part of a larger region, rather than being a region in itself.

Couldn't wait another week, have been waiting months for this. Just bought it and am waiting for it to install.
Fingers crossed for no server issues, I'll let you know how I get on.
Have sent you request (Albion-Lizard) :)

Will buy it on way to work and be playing tonight. Might look at trying to add some NSC people over weekend if we fancy making a 'region' but it sounds like it might be better to do one in a week or so when things have sorted themselves out and we've had an explore of the game

So they have removed "cheetah" speed, to lessen the weight on the servers. So you won't be able to speed things along to raise revenues. Also they have temporarily disabled leader-boards and achievements, the whole point of playing online.

As much as I am looking forward to playing the full game, I am delighted that EA have royally ****ed this up because of their "always online" policy. Hopefully this will force them to give up this stupid shit, although I doubt it.

At the moment I would be not bother parting with any cash until they have the game working and playable, by the sounds of it the game is pretty much unplayable at this time.

Always online games mainly played in single play mode is nothing more than a sales model to increase ongoing sales revenue. The fact that you are paying so much upfront for a service - you dont own the software they do as you cannot play if unless EA allow you to. Over time they will release updates for a price initially peer pressure and wanting to see more will force people to buy the update which a lot probably wouldnt bother with if it was stand alone. As time goes on you wont be able to access parts of the game without the updates and what happens when they finally decide to remove the game servers at the end of life, you lose the game and cannot play even though you "own" a copy.

I love SimCity but this is a step too far I will not be buying this game regrettably.

Well I've just spent the best part of 6 hours on it almost continuous and not a single issue using Europe West 3.

As for the game, well it's immense. I've got 63,000 sims living in my casino city which was using wind power, but is now using Oil as I was running out of space for all the turbines. Taking into account the server issues I'd probably go for about 7/10. If the servers were fine it would be 9/10.

I did wander why Cheetah Speed wasn't all that quick. If they've disabled it that would be why. There should still be an offline mode though. EA are going to shoot themselves in the foot with their "always online" fantasy.
