Yet again Coast fails to disappoint.

This really was a superb episode from Hovercrafts to magnificent footage of the "other" Volks Railway topped with a visit to my home towns fort.

Worth every penny of the licence fee and in case you wondered buy the books they are just as good.

Bit of useless info- I went to the same boarding school as Mark Horton who did the piece about the Volks Railway. Ironically I was in the same history class as him,he obviously listened more than me as he turned out a professor! I remember at weekends when most of us played cricket or rugby he would galavant off to nearby churches in the Oxford area to practice his hobby of 'brass rubbing' , which obviously led on to his interest in Archaeology.

:ohmy::ohmy::ohmy::ohmy:France!!!

Indeed. Very interesting too.

I knew that England and France were once connected but I hadn't realised it was as recently as 600,000 years ago. I was annoyed by the geologist who said that the separation would have been quick - what the hell does that mean? Minutes? Hours? Days? Weeks? Years? In terms of the history of the earth, 50 years could be construed as "quick" - a totally meaningless thing to say.

But the rest of it was as good as ever and I loved the story about getting the recce mission for the D-Day landings wrong as they forgot to take into account the time difference.

sorry but the Scotch boy ruins it for me. I cannot watch him.

Also the title sequence is rammed full of standard BBC diversity made up bollocks which makes you despise it even more.

Then it kicks in and you forget all that. Superb stuff.

Strangly, I am the opposite, Jocko is the most listenable, it is the over enthusiasm of the others that grates.

I find the whole program a bit middle class twee, to be honest.

Everyone knows that the ENTIRE coast of Britain consists of white cliffs, built by God to keep Johnny Foreigner at bay. All this nonsense about beaches and estuaries is political correctness gone MAD.
