New F1 TV deal

Well lets hope the BBC can keep all the European GP's and Sky can have the rest, Middle East/Far East where the tracks are boring, there is no local interest in F1 and hardly any spectators, it's purely there to attract tourists and put the country on the global map.
Rather like when boxing went to pay TV and lost millions of fans, I hope it fails, only about 1 in 20 races are ever worth paying for, Moto GP/Superbikes are far better racingwise.

Why don't the BBC get rid of half the websites nobody looks at. And how about stop providing content in different languages for overseas viewers.
Get rid of half of the bloody chefs and cooking programmes, and stop funding shitty comedies like the Life of Riley.

Whilst the BBC coverage is pretty good, they can't afford to keep F1. The sport will lose viewers, but still make money from the new contract. As long as they don't put ad breaks during the race, I for one don't mind. Apart from footie, I generally like Sky sport coverage, especially the golf, and I watch a lot of golf - I really don't like the BBC coverage of golf any more (apart frrom Ken Brown, of course)

They already did, plus some of their radio stations.

I don't think BBC can really be blamed for this, Sky have far more money than them and have outbid them. Not much they could do really.

They haven't out bid them, they have obviously approached BBC to "help them out"

Don't have Sky, don't want Sky, suspect I'll just be watching the BBC races unless Setanta Ireland finally realise they can't afford their rights and let RTE have them back...

I'm absolutely livid.

I don't have Sky, I never had Sky and I never will have Sky.

No sport is safe when Sky want it and it seems everything has its price... but if people didn't subscribe they wouldn't have the money to buy up everything.

I love the F1 coverage from BBC, it was one of the bastions of premier sport that Sky didn't have a handle on.

Utter fucksticks!

So, out of curiosity, if the BBC said "we'll keep F1, but you pay an extra £50 a year on your license for it" would you pay it ?

Same thing though really isn't it? Not much BBC can do about it as Sky have enough money to do pretty much what they want. I wonder how long it will be until they get full coverage.

Why all the hatred for SKY?

If it was not for SKY we would still only be watching match of the day and the occasional live game on tv..

They have put a lot more sport on TV than BBC and ITV ever could..
Also there are some cracking documentary channels on the SKY platform.

Without sky, BBC wouldn't have any races, I'm annoyed as much as the next but half on BBC and all on sky is better than no races at all

Sky have over saturated the market, how many of the games they broadcast are you actualy interested in watching ? Bolton V Wigan perhaps ? or even the Audi cup ? lets face it most of what's on sky sports already is utter tosh.

the documentry channels don't count as they are not owned by Sky and are available through other providers.

i was pissed off when channel 4 lost the england test matches. that 2005 ashes series was incredible on C4... but then so were the 2 ashes series that have been since then and channel 4 coverage was soon forgotten about.

it'll be the same with BBC. Sky are probably lining up Jake and Martin Brundle to continue anyway along with eddie and david coulthard. the only downside is the adverts, just hope theres none in the race!

Sky have done a lot for sport and its a case of the rich getting richer again. but thats life.

So, just beacuse you don't want to watch something, then no-one else does ? I don't watch many of the footie games either, but some people will want to, it's their choice. I don't know how old you are, but you preferred it when the only live game you ever saw on TV was the cup final ? I don't know if you like the prem, but if you do, Sky has basically paid for all the top players to be here, without it I doubt we'd have a league in the top 5 in Europe - given that we'd have mostly British players playing here. I don't like Murdoch and wouldn't dream of buying any of his papers - mainly beacuse they're crap IMO, but I don't have a problem with Sky - I choose to pay for it.

At least the excellent Tony Jardine will be presenting, he knocks Jake Humphrey into a cocked hat.
