Little bit worries to see Bill Nighy and Catherine Zeta-Jones ahead of Toby Jones in the credits but doesn't actually look that bad...

Not easy to pull off, but that cast is great.

Oh no, they'll be doing a remake of Last of the Summer Wine before we know it.

The film is doomed.

As well as being handicapped due to the comparison to the original cast, it has the problem of trying to transfer what worked extremely well in a 30 minute episode into film.

If the new film, is compared to the original cast film, it may well be on a par, but against the original cast in a 30 minute show - no chance.

Doomed ? How appropriate.

I think you have to give the cast some respect in this.

This isn't a list of actors that will just phone it in, race to their catchphrase, while trampling all over the original.

I'm in 2 minds, but they deserve the benefit of the doubt.
We already know this could be considerably worse, the fact that the casting is spot on has be give some hope for the film.

I hated the idea of this when I first heard about it. The original programmes, characters and cast were just so good.

But having seen the snippets of Michael Gambon as Godfrey and Bill Nighy as Sgt Wilson, among others, I have to admit it shows some promise.

Totally agree. The original cast was just so perfect in every way that I found the idea of a re-make outrageous. However, having seen the new cast a few months back, I was prepared to give it a go. The trailer looks good.

They were persuaded by the Yorkshire film mob to film it all in Yorkshire. Suspect Scarborough, or similar, will substitute for the South Coast resort of Warmington on Sea, um!

Walmington on Sea on the South Coast looks suspectly like the coast around Thetford in Norfolk in the TV Series.

The original TV series was perfect although the film, possibly less so. It takes a stella cast including two Theatrical Knights to even get close. I am totally looking forward to it but I wont compare it to something that is incomparable, but I hope to enjoy it for what it is - I cant wait!

It has so much to live up to. But it looks like each member of the platoon have been hand picked and the directors have got it spot on. Now I need to find someone to go with.

Don't get the 1944 reference? Surely they must have done some basic research into the forming of the Home Guard?
