But our public transport is fantastic, so it's a brilliant idea to take out main road lanes and replace with cycle lanes!

Oh
What bothers me, is the lack of patience in drivers at the roundabout.

Email for anyone who can be arsed to make a complaint or question wtf they were thinking.
Thank you email sent, they’ve really ****ed this up because the bottlenecks which are causing the problems are needed, I have no clue how they will resolve this all the time the “temp “ bike lane is there, traffic jams at 2pm from Pier all the way back to the level!!!
Its INSANE that the council didn't recognise that this would happen. Utterly insane

In fairness though, if you've had to wait 15-20 minutes just to get to the roundabout, I'd imagine patience will have been wearing very, very thin by then.
Any time motoring lanes are reduced to allow for a cycle lane there is going to be a period of adjustment like this.
It will take being stuck in a load of traffic for people to think, "next time I travel through Brighton at peak time, I might have to do it in a more sustainable way".
This was entirely predictable and predicted and in my view worth it in the long term.
Conversely, if you've had to wait 15-20 minutes already, what's one more minute if it reduces the frustrations of other drivers?

I don't disagree, but we are talking about human nature. Being deliberately stitched up in a traffic jam while an entire lane next to you lays empty and unused is immensely frustrating. If its roadworks then you kind of accept it as one of those things, maintenance has to be carried out some time. But when its done deliberately to stitch you up (being as the seafront is already very well serviced by cycle lanes), then frankly I'm not overly surprised if some drivers end up in full-on Michael Douglas Falling Down mode by the time they hit that roundabout.
This cycle lane looked hair-brained when I walked alongside it on Saturday. Now the full horrors of it are coming to pass. Great to see the emergency services caught up in all the carnage as well.
Well.
Done.
Everyone.
The worst bit for me is the decision was made when there is also a major hospital nearby whose ambulances frequently use that road, and will continue to have to for lack of other routes across town from that location (as for thousands others from there and further east Saltdean, Peacehaven etc)
