Well I still yearn for the days when it was called the First/Second/Third/Fourth division.

I still refer to L1 and L2 as the 3rd Division and the 4th Division. It just feels right.

Come off it, losers, we're a borderline League One/League Two football club.

The club shop, as with all lower league football clubs, does not by its very nature attract much in the way of passing trade. It attracts people who support that club, and who will make a specific trip to the location in order to buy something (tat) they can generally only purchase at that premises.

It's not like a Tesco, FFS! Football fans are very parochial. Their shops do not attract people who just happen to be passing and think "Oooh! I came out for a new coffee table from Habitat, but you know what, I think I, as a Derby County/Barcelona/rugby fan might just pop in that attractive seagull-fronted shop and buy myself a Brighton & Hove Albion lampshade and an air-freshener for the Volvo". It might work for Man United, but at our level? Rarely.

Would any of you guys start spending your cash in a Crystal Palace, Arsenal or Stranraer FC shop just because one opened in Churchill Square? ???

Apologies for starting this thread. I jumped the gun a little as someone mentioned it was opening this week, so I thought it was more than a little bizarre that this ws the first time it had been mentioned.

However if it is not until May then fair enough that only a passing mention has been given so far. I shall await the fanfare in the coming weeks!

I think the only difference is that Brighton is a huge tourist destination for people from around the globe.

I have been to Amsterdam Berlin and Munich and on each occasion bought something related to the local team. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the club shop gets some fairly good trade from foreigners passing by, especially in the summer.

I should hope not! I thought they changed it to the Premiership in 2001, and back to the Premier League in 2007...

:nono:

What reason was given for it changing back in 2007?

I hadn't noticed it had changed!

Premier League Drops ‘Premiership’ Name in UKby The Gaffer on May 21, 2007 · 0 comments

Blink and you may have missed it, but this past weekend the English Premier League announced that it officially changed the name of its league from the Barclays Premiership to Barclays Premier League.

Previously, the official names used was Barclays Premiership (in the UK) and Barclays Premier League (outside the UK). Now, the EPL has decided to adopt one name worldwide, the Barclays Premier League.

Of course, we can all drop the sponsor’s name from the title, so the consistent name across the globe will be the Premier League. The move makes sense in my opinion. With the NFL, it’s just that. The NFL. There’s no variations of what the league is called, so it’s easier and more cost-effective to build a brand name.

Of course, old habits die hard so you can expect everyone in the UK (and outside) to continue calling the Premier League the ‘Premiership.’

Thanks to reader JeffyHash for bringing the story to my attention

Hmmm... Up for a bout of pedantry...? ???
Happy to.

If we are going to use geographical characteristics to name the stands ...

The "North Stand" should be the North West Stand, the "South Stand" should be the South East Stand, the "West Stand" should be the South West Stand and the "East Stand" should be the North East Stand.

Those of us who attended the second Public Inquiry might remember the presentation by the Club's architect, who explained that the concept of a "West Stand" was well established in the jargon of his trade, meaning the side of the ground where all the exciting TV, hospitality and players' facilities were located. It's the one with the best view, because the high paying spectators don't get the sun in their eyes.

I've always been astonished that the Albion have never properly sold the benefits of the West Stand at Withdean ... it's the PREMIUM viewing area. Away fans should be DELIGHTED.

Quite.

So the Club Shop is at the south western end of the North West Stand.

Or probably the most westerly point in the stadium. :)

My mum and stepdad live in Stranraer , so I have been to the football ground. The club shop is next to the terracing behind one of the goals. Me and my eldest son watched them play against Berwick Rangers in August 1995. Stranraer will be playing in Div 3 next season as they are bottom of Div 2 and have no chance of escaping relegation. Coincidentally , when walking to the ground you walk along London Road.

given the number of foreign students/tourists visiting Brighton by train and walking up/down Queen's Road I would have thought that the club shouldn't ignore this potential "passing trade" market.

What did Insider mean by his:clap2: against the "DK was in advertising, not PR" comment?
