I fully understand what Barber out is doing but it's all short term 'ism'.

I've seen it mentioned on these very boards that football is eating itself, well, I'm afraid that is exactly what capitalism does, all about the short haul and not the long one.

You should count yourself lucky I was in the East Lower for this game and you should have seen the hot-dogs they were dishing up there. I did not have one as I wanted a pie but was in a que where a few people infront of me odered hot-dogs and they ended up bringing them back to complain. The things looked sickenly under-cooked, if cooked at all.

They guys got their money and took pictures of the evidence and I stood and watched all this whilst there were arguements going on between the catering staff as to how this happened.

I am not really having a moan myself as other than the first few Amex games when they kept running out of stuff I have had no real problems with the catering.

Must admit I was disappointed in the 1901 last night, although I am putting it down to new caterers and the fact it was a friendly (which shouldn't matter at all). I will reserve proper judgement until after first few league games. Usually there is a stall in our lounge selling crisps, chocolate, sweets, etc, as well as pies and other warm snacks which seem to alternate each home game. That stall has now gone; all we wanted was a couple of packs of crisps to nibble on. I spoke to bar staff and asked to see if they had any crisps behind the bar and I was told that only the Bupa Lounge sells crisps and snacks this season so I would have to go down there. I was told in our lounge that, unless you wanted the Spanish buffet, that it was simply a "choice of a pie or nothing". If that's going to be the case this season then that's appalling. And I know that people say 1901 is full of wealthy snobs and we should suck it up; well I am a one man band and have these seats as a "treat" for me and the old man, who sadly couldn't make last night. A choice of a pie or nothing? Do one.

Well I'm not sure if your in the same lounge as me, (Mayo Wynne Baxter), but I was very disappointed. They now have the £14 buffet bubbling away at the far end of the lounge and having got there more than an hour before KO I don't think I saw one meal being served. God knows how much wastage there must have been if the whole lot was dumped at the end.

The only choice I had was a pie and I got a Chicken Balti which was almost inedible. It had obviously been sitting around too long in the heated display unit and the pastry was rock hard. The contents were only lukewarm and I thought very dry although on the plus side you now get a proper knife and fork rather than a plastic jobby. However nobody knew what to do with the remnants when I finished and I was told to put it all in the bin until I pointed out that there was a metal knife and fork which presumably they might like to use again.

Last season we had a choice of pies, other hot snacks like soup or hot meat baguette, crisps and sweets for the kiddies. This year it looks like a pie or nothing so on last nights performance it will be nothing.

It was an interesting comment that if we want crisps we had to go to one of the other lounges as I understood it we have to stick to our own lounge until after the game so don't know how thats going to work.

It makes you wonder how with a crowd only 40% of capacity last night how there going to cope with a 30000 one.

This is going to end in tears I think.

This is spot on - got to say apart from good seats I'm seriously disappointed at what getting for the money at times. With mates I enjoy the north stand, for my business the 1901. Simply things like serving drinks quickly, providing a decent and edible meal that looks what it cost to buy rather than something heated up and not appetising at all is not much to ask for - the club need to decide if to do catering or just have crisps and pies because at moment the results are very poor.

My younger brother worked in the Lower East. He is a buerk, so I am glad I don't sit down there any more. He was pulling pints, which is a mental thought. He struggles to lut his shoes on the right feet, let alone pull a pint.

Even better, at the end of the shift he was given a free pie. Controversial.

I must have got him then, ordered two pints and they came back barely half full. The girl then went back to get them filled up and some bloke shouted sorry my fault. Even I know when a glass is half full or not when pouring it. They seemed to struggle so god knows what it will be like with a full house. I assume the students have gone home so maybe staff numbers are down until they come back

As others have said, the answer is simple: forget about rubbish hotdogs and food you'd never eat in real life. Just get something decent before you arrive.

In other news, Martin, landlord at The Swan, says he's bringing the marquee catering in-house from now on. So their existing (and excellent) barbecue/burgers matchday offerings will now be extended to include dishes from the pub's main menu.

Given the Swan's ever-excellent choice of beers and proper pub atmosphere, it's hard to imagine why anyone would want to stand in queues and pay eye-watering prices for increasingly unacceptable catering at the Amex.

The 1901 lounge in the West was very poor.

The 'buffet' turned out to be ONE plate of food that they served you (definition of a 'buffet' anyone?) and it was £14!!!!

The steak pie was my choice and was fine, as usual, but I'm getting fed up of basically having a choice of a pie or nothing.

There were no hot dogs, no burgers, no crisps, no chocolate, the water for the tea was cold (slightly warm at half time) and the staff looked like rabbits caught in headlights.

I did not see one single person have the 'buffet' option, not one.

A guy ordered a vegetarian pie for his son who ended up biting into a chicken and gammon that they gave him by mistake!!

We did not have the 'special' pie on offer at all.

Finally, the staff said they had had no training on the card machine so it took ages to get served.

Basically.....Same shit, new season.
