Don't go through British Gas, they charge the earth. Got a Corgi guy through yellow pages, Glow worm boiler, fully fitted £1450 including some new piping. The boiler is guarenteed for two years and has already cut my heating bills over the last two quarters, mind you the old boiler was over 20 yeras old!

Listen to John Boy and answer his questions, his dad replaced my boiler for much less than your sister has been quoted and can be highly recommended

I can also wholeheartedly recommend John Boy's dad. He did up my bathroom recently and made a first-class job of it at a very reasonable price

I will need a new complete system, and have been quoted £4000, for my one bedroomed flat. when I get somewhere near that, then I will look at getting the written quotes in.

If its a Worcester Combi that is replacing a back boiler, and has got to be moved a long way and includes removing the flue liner, tanks and cylinders, and is being done by a large company that employs a lot of engineers, that's probably about right.

If it's a man and a van and is a straight boiler swap.... get some other quotes!

sister lives in North London, so i dont think i'll suggest John Boy's dad (unless he's hard up for work?).

seems theres more to it than the boiler, previous fitting was a bit of a bodge it, flue needs to be redone and the piping is the wrong size apparently. then, due to good old new regulations, if they touch the system have to change the radiator inputs to individual themostats  . different quotes said this so doesnt seem to be a tuck up. So basically its for a whole new system, which doesnt sound so unreasonable. thanks North Stand Wisdom

somewhere in Eastbourne
we had our boiler(Baxi) put in + bathroom suite and shower and thermostatic valves on all the old radiators (they all were in pretty good condition) new kitchen sink fitted ect ect and we had change from 2.5 k but then that was in Wales 3k for just a boiler does seem rather steep and our price include them taking the old back boiler away and fitting another fire which we supplied.

one of the +'s of living in Wales I suppose

I am in the process of having a new one fitted, which for a 2 bedroom flat, has come in at just over £3000. A mate who has a 3 bedroom house paid about £4500 last year for one. Mine includes relocating it, pipework and disposal of the old tank etc.

Not a cheap business (and a bloody annoying one too, as I'm living out of a suitcase owing to the fact I've had no water for days and the plumber was late starting the job, delaying things further over the weekend ).

Don't muck about - for Brighton (and S London) based posters, use BB Plumbing and Heating on 07973618932. Supaseagull spoke very well of them, and they are BHA fans to boot

beorhthelm - where abouts in N London is your sister ? They may well travel that bit further..
