Congratulations to Albion 1st-year scholar (central midfielder) Toby Collyer, who has been called up to a five-day, 28-strong England U-19 training camp starting on Sunday:-

Collyer has been capped multiple times by England at U-16 level.

Is there any finer sight than seeing an Albion academy product wearing the Three Lions?

Agreed, and well done that lad.

But, bearing in mind how well our academy is progressing, is it just a tad presumptuous to be mildly disappointed he's the only one if ours there?

I wouldnt think too much of it. From each birth year there will usually be about 60 players called up over the year or two they play at U19 level, with the squads looking very different from the first call-up to the final one (usually the Euro U19s). Getting called up to that tournament means a lot, because statistically you have about a 1 in 5 chance of turning into a full international. But at this stage... there are players left out of this selection that will turn into fantastic players while the majority of the young guys that got this initial call will be forgotten in a few years.

I'm sure the squad will look a lot different as we get closer to the 2022 U19 Euros.

Andrew Moran has been called up for a Republic of Ireland U-19 training camp from today (along with James Furlong and Matt Everitt) - U19 | Players named for Mohan's Ireland training camp

Good to see, I was a little puzzled when they were not included in the training squad a couple weeks back (https://www.the42.ie/stephen-ireland-son-5440877-May2021/) but with this squad it shows they are looking at a large number over two sessions. I'm sure Evan Ferguson will be involved soon enough

The new first-year scholars are:

Josh Duffus – Hardworking centre forward from London who has been with the club since 2017. Aged 16.

Jake Gee – Jake is a 16-year-old Londoner who plays in midfield and was signed from Fulham.

Jack Hinshelwood – The son of former Albion player Adam and the great nephew of ex-Albion coach Martin, 16-year-old Jack is a tough-tackling midfielder who has been in the pathway since the age of 8 and has played for the under-17s and under-18s.

Eliot Jenks – The 16-year-old brother of Teddy, Eliot is a composed central midfielder who has been at the club since the age of eight.

Ruairi McConville – Albion signed the powerful 16-year-old central defender from Irish club Linfield after a successful trial.

Tommy Reid – Hastings-born goalkeeper Tommy is 16 and has been with the club for eight years and has represented England at under-15 and under-16 level.

Bailey Smith – Another local youngster, 16-year-old Bailey is an attacking wide player who comes from Worthing.

Good to see Bailey Smith in there. Local lad who was with the academy as a schoolboy, got dropped and then got signed again.

Not sure it's the right thread, but the Albion just posted a very interesting video with Mark Beard, primarily about the U18 group. Well worth a watch.

Very impressive. Came across very well - almost looked like we had succession planning in place should GP get poached by a bigger club in 2 or 3 years - shame he's now b*gg*r*d off!

John Lucero returning from injury this weekend gone after last playing end of October last year, great to see! Appears to be a popular lad amongst the group from his socials too so that should help.

Sydie Peck:

View attachment 136129

He has come up through the Arsenal academy system. He is an U-16 this season and was expected to be offered his scholarship, but the fact that he is trialing for us suggests it didn't materialise, for some reason. He is a midfielder with good passing skills who can also find the net. He possesses good leadership qualities, apparently.

Jake Gee moved from Barnet to Fulham at U-12 level. He is a versatile midfielder who can also play on the wing. He featured on this list of top 10 wonderkids
I think he is another U-16 this season.

Harry Lee was on the bench today - he is an U-15 in the Albion academy, but has already been offered his scholarship (which won't commence until the summer of 2022). He is from Horsham, used to play as a winger before moving to right-back. He played for the Learn Play Achieve academy before joining Albion for his U-14 season in the summer of 2019.
Sydie Peck started for Sheffield United against Wrexham in the Carabao Cup this evening.
