I'm good like that. To be fair, the likes of FW De Klerk also deserve big plaudits. One thing I found when living there was that S African attitudes and politics is not just a matter of black and white as we would believe over here. It's not so easy simply to say that they were one thing or other.

I did go drinking in a shebeen in Alexandria once. Stupid and dangerous thing to do in hindsight. Hillbrow went downhill very rapidly when I was there to the point that I didn't go there at all. My mate was shot at with an AK47 once in Hillbrow.

I watched pretty much all of the world cup 2010 and I once ate some biltong, I think Mandela mellowed into a fairly normal old man but had a chequered past involving violence and murder or at least the sanctioning of murder. Not black & white at all, I'm well aware- I have plenty of friends from the region. And agree completely about Zimbabwe - which is barking mad chaos, rather than bearing any resemblance to socialism, for which I have no axe to grind, just find it dim bizarre to hear it used as an insult on any kind of a par with the appalling regime which Mandela was fighting.
