It seems from the two games in Japan that we are moving towards a more direct/ pressing style and as such I can’t see that it favours Billy.
Shame but he has two more years of his contract left and so an offer of say £15m would give us a nice profit and help with PSR for 2014/15.
Hopefully helps finance the move for Gomez and the Turkish wing back.

Cannot hit a cow's arse with a banjo or tackle. Lots of pretty passing but we have a lot of midfielders, with more to come and our style of play is evolving.

I mean this thread clearly shows he’s not overrated. Seems a pretty even split on people who think we should keep him and people who think we should let him go.

I’m very much on the fence because at his age he could get a lot better, but I worry that his physical profile will always limit him. I suspect it very much depends on the system a coach wants to play for Gilmour, which is what separates him from the elite level talent who can work a role in a pretty much any system. That could still come for Gilmour but it’s hard to say.

I’m very much on the fence because at his age he could get a lot better, but I worry that his physical profile will always limit him. However, it's also interesting that there doesn't seem to be any bottom-half Premier League clubs beating down our door for him at the mooted valuation.

I suspect they wouldn’t receive the ‘he won’t be playing against us’ discount. I think the club would surely stick another £5m - £10m on the price if one of our rivals were interested.

As I’ve said before, it’s mostly because of his physical profile. You have to be very good to get away with being small and slow whilst having no demonstrative attacking output in the Premier League.

Teams battling to stay up will think they can’t really afford a player like Gilmour.

£12m according to widely circulated media reports is around the price we’re looking at, that’s not NSC.

And definitely arguable he was one of our best players, to me he was a weak link. The club are clearly not too concerned about losing him either.

It was a regular contradiction on here last season that it was said one of the main reasons we weren’t as good as the season before was that our central midfield was nowhere near as good and yet Gilmour and Gross, our central midfield, were regularly praised as being our best players. And whilst for the first two thirds of the season, Gross deserved that, Gilmour’s contribution was always hugely over praised just because he looks a bit busy on the pitch but his output is actually poor. He’s a distinctly average player.

I will miss Gross as he has been a wonderful player for us but his form deserted him at the end of the season, he’s now 33 and deserves his chance with Dortmund. I’m happy for both him and Gilmour to go. Our centre midfield was a real problem for us last season, Gilmour was a major part of that problem, we needed to make changes and we clearly are.

Really looking forward to seeing our revamped, upgraded and more physical central midfield next season.

In the PL we were largely indifferent to rubbish in CM last season, often overrun, out fought out and outpaced. Our central defenders had little protection. Yet the player with 0 goals and 3 assists over 2 seasons is lauded. It doesn’t add up.

Our CM last season was poor. Teams like Fulham, Everton, Luton were able to take the p.
