Naomi upset, but ....is it really racism?

Naomi Campbell in race row over Cadbury chocolate - BV Black Spin

Hmm, it's not like skin colour has never been compared to other things before - and especially chocolate. There's a magazine called 'Ebony' - is that any more or less racist by comparison? :glare:

Perhaps it's just 'Naomi' :annoyed: looking for attention?

It could be fun saying to a black lass; "The Milky Bar, is on me"

they should've have gone for the better tagline of
"Naomi, it's no blood diamond but it is bloody tasty"

She'd have no problem with that

Where in that advert does it say it is referring to Naomi Campbell ?

It doesn't!
So she couldn't do shit about it anyway, legally (though don't count a lawsuit out, as she might be getting pitched from thousands of lawyers who think they'd win it on the premise of sufficient implication).

Racism though :glare:

quote; Yesterday Campbell revealed she is considering "every option available" after Cadbury, owned by the US giant Kraft, refused to pull the ad campaign, which ran in newspapers last week: "I am shocked. It's upsetting to be described as chocolate, not just for me, but for all black women and black people. I do not find any humour in this. It is insulting and hurtful." unquote

NOWHERE does it say that "Naomi Campbell is a chocolate bar" which is what she is claiming it does.
Cadburys said that it was a tongue in cheek jibe at the fact that she's a diva and comparing her to a product which has aspirations above its station
Anything for a bit of publicity . . .

Not the wisest thing to consider...
Trouble choosing which standard edition? Just try all our hot chocolate Options!

Wonder which one she'll go for.

Naomi Campbell is getting old and wrinkly, she won't be of much interest to the world she has made a fat living from now, she's one woman that it's very hard to have any empathy with given her history. She should shut up and quietly get on with her life.

She is just an attention seeking bitch who's career is going nowhere and she needs to stay in the public eye. She is an excuse for a role model and should just be forgotten about.

Ok, what do the black guys and girls on this board (please tell me there are a couple) think, are you upset?

I figure it's racist if, based on the colour of your skin, you're compared to a chocolate bar in a negative way. It obviously wouldn't have been an issue if Naomi had been featured in the add, but given that she's not in on the joke, and it is poking fun at her, I'd assume there is a case to answer (they wouldn't have made the add if she was white).

Yes. It's racist and kind of the worst sort of racist - unspottable by a lot of people.

I'm not black but i'd imagine lynching's probably the worst sort of racism. Then perhaps racist attacks, then probably police victimisation.
I'd imagine the chocolate advert is below saying 'Well done for Obama" or having their afros played with by strangers on the badness of racism scale as well
